    Let me first start off by saying, we here at CrackBerry take no responsibility if you attempt this and royally screw up your BlackBerry. This is not a difficult process, but you have to be a little techinal saavy to do this. Now with that being said.....

    You'll need to edit your blackberry.alx file.

    First off you need to have the appropriate OS for your device loaded on your PC. Once loaded, find the blackberry.alx file. It will generally be found here:

    C:/Program Files/Common Files/Research in Motion/Shared/Loader Files/8800-v4.2.1.74_P2.3.0.54

    **The last folder is the OS you have loaded on your PC, my example is the 8800 OS**

    Once found, open the file using WordPad, and look for something similiar to this example (note, this is example only)

    <!-- Cingular US filesets -->

    <fileset Colour="True" KeyboardType="Qwerty" Java="1.0" series="8800" _vendorID="102">
    <files>

    This is the theme file, you'll need to edit it and take out the vendorID. It should look like this when done.

    <!-- Cingular US filesets -->

    <fileset Colour="True" KeyboardType="Qwerty" Java="1.0" series="8800">
    <files>

    You can do this for all the theme files and hence have all vendor themes unlocked for your use. Then just Save the file. Close all the open files, then open Desktop Manager, connect your device, and it should automatically ask if you want to upgrade. Just click yes and you should be good to go. If it doesn't, you can open the App Loader and do it manually.

    Now if you are using an OS other than one provided from your carrier, you'll also need to delete the Vendor.XML file. It can be found in the same location as the BlackBerry.alx file.

    Give this a shot, if you get lost, come back here and let us know.

    how do i put my os on my comp to edited the alx file.

    this is from the original directions:

    First off you need to have the appropriate OS for your device loaded on your PC. Once loaded, find the blackberry.alx file. It will generally be found here:

    C:/Program Files/Common Files/Research in Motion/Shared/Loader Files/8800-v4.2.1.74_P2.3.0.54

    i looked and i dont have it.

    You say to delete the vendor id #. but in other places in this thread they say to replace all vendor ids with your current carrier id. So which is correct, i did like they said with a 7290, but still have only the original theme.

    If you tell it to put your carrier ID theme in there, well, thats what it will do.

    Do as it says here and it will work; it did for me.

    Personally, I have all OEM or carrier themes deleted and use only danieloco's Blackberry Bliss Theme from here on my 8900. Maybe check out some of his themes, you might like them

    anyone know, if I edit the .alx and reload, do I have to get my BES admin to reload on the BES or is it just editing that singular file?

    i'm a bit on the confused side. I edited the file just fine. Earlier I managed to install OS 5 just fine (eventually). The problem is I don't know how to get it to update the phone. I am already all up to date but the way its described is that once the alx file is changed and vendor file is deleted that it would try to update, but it doesn't.

    I'm a mega noob as well. i have a Curve 8330 with Verizon, i went to the BB site to look at OS's and mine(4.5.0.175)isn't even listed!
    currently, there is no '.alx' file anywhere to be found on my computer!

    -should i update/upgrade OS's? if so which one?
    -once down, do I install on PC then how do i get it to the BB?
    -is that the sync function or what?

    thanks for any response(s)

    I have a verizon 9630 running os 5. whatever (verizon)

    I can not find any alx files, I have done a search through all files and hidden files...nothing turned up. I also searched vendor ID.

    This is what i see...

    <os model="6700" radio="GPRS" series="6700" Colour="False" JVMLevel="1.0" KeyboardType="Qwerty" SystemSize="small" _flashSize="[,8M]">0x80000403</os>
    - <!-- 6750 -->

    or there is this one

    <os model="9500" radio="CDMA-GPRS" series="Thunder" Colour="True" Theme="Normal" JVMLevel="1.0" Camera="True" VideoRecorder="True" VoiceNotes="True" pttApp="True" Memory="Large" KeyboardType="Virtual" SystemSize="normal" MMS="True" GPS="True" Sound="Tunes8700g" Bluetooth="True" Backdrop="68M_240x260" ThemeSupport="Enhanced" VAD="True" JPN_Input="True" OMADRM="true">0x06001404</os>
    - <!-- 9530 -->

    this is an example i cut and pasted they all have different numbers.

    I have no idea which one to delete since nothing looks like the example. I don't see anything <!-- verizon US filesets-->

    Any help would be great

    Does anyone also have this problem? I've already have the unlocked themes working. The problem is that anytime I go to application loader from the DM and load a new app, in the process of loading, I see my unlocked themes being removed. Seems like everytime you run the app loader, it searches out to the internet instead of going back to the original loader folder where OS was loaded from... Any insight would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
