Why I'm returning my second Storm and going back to my Treo 750

- I own an IT company and both a Gold partner with Dell and Microsoft. Been a MCSES since the days of NT. I understand technology, and when I say I have tested every possible option to make the phone work, I have. In regards to attachemnts, I have sent every flavor(2003 to 2007 format and PDF in ver 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 format)) and every size possible, none open.
If you are thinking it is part of the sd card that is in there have you tried doing a format on it from a windows machine using a mem card adapter/dongle and not the blackberry?11-25-08 03:16 PMLike 0 -

1. Why would I not advise them to switch to the Treo 750? That has nothing to do with the topic of the Storm, my issue and why I'm going back to my Treo. But for the subject, I don't advise clients to use the Treo 750 because it's not that great of a phone, but it does do active sync. My clients are larger and use BAS. The blackberry is a great company I recommend 95% of my client who need the features to use a BB, but at present, not the Storm. I also recommend a lot of my clients to use the iphone due to active sync.
2. You doubt that many companies would drop their current BB for the Storm. Well, not sure what field you are in, but the clients that I support all make a profit and have the cash flow to purchase the Storm and have asked my professional opinion what I think about making the transition. With my clients, I have more than 287 that are interested in the Storm, so in fact, the number of storms in total are more in the realm of 4x that number.
Your trying to make an argument about my topic, but the topic is just that, my topic and why I'm going back to the Treo. If the Storm becomes a better product and the issues are fixed, I'll go back. There are stints of lag here and there but nothing major that would make me return it. - I tried the Storm for 20 minutes in the Verizon store - 2 of them. It was rather clear to me quickly that this phone is not for people who text or use email significantly. I'm not sure any touch screen will be optimal. That said, the rest of the Storm was partially impresive. Multimedia was nice, it had that "gloss" look, improved features, but the overall operation in the OS was not that great. The Blackberry OS was made for a trackball. The iPhone OS was made for touchscreen. No matter how much you want to tell us you love the Storm, it's just not built efficiently and likely no upgrade in the near future will fix all the flaws in this offering. If there is a need for speed and efficiency and accuracy, the Storm is not for you. That's why I've kept my Curve and would have been happy with the Treo 750/755.11-25-08 08:05 PMLike 0
- First off, This will be my 3rd blackberry as i own a 8830,8330, & now the 9530 (storm) Being a business owner myself i highly rely on my email as i receive over 200 emails a day with 25-30% of them containing attached documents most of which are PDF, Word, and Excel files and i have yet to have a problem with with receiving emails or opening attachments... i receive all my email in a fast efficient manner and all the attachments have opened quickly and efficiently...
i purchased my storm on the 21st so i have had as much time to learn the device as others have and I'm not an IT guy by any means just a simple Real Estate Broker...
However when i purchased this device i was very aware that it would have some bugs, as most technology does when the first of its kind is released.. however as a person who can think outside the box, and quickly adjust this did not bother me, or intimidate me at all...I simply erased many of the applications i would never use such as vz navigator, Facebook, word mole, etc... which free'd up precious memory allowing the phone to funtion much faster....
I must say that i am very happy with the initial device and all though i will agree that their is room for improvement, and surely agree that updates to the OS will definitely make this phone much better then it is, i don't think its as bad as many whiny cry babies in this forum are making it seem...
Now in regards to the OP i must say WOW... I'm not trying to start an argument or anything, but all i can say is for someone who owns an IT company and both a Gold partner with Dell and Microsoft who has been a MCSES since the days of NT, and claims to know technology very well, im very surprised that your so disappointed with this phone. It's as if you expected the first touchscreen blackberry ever to be flawless, and not have bugs of any kind...Surely a man of your stature knows that an initial release of any piece of technology is normally followed up with updates to correct any issues that may have slipped through the cracks...(i say this as the issues you have stated are OS related)
I'm also very surprised that a gentleman with such high credentials as yourself does not know the IT lingo...which i would assume in your business should fall as second nature as you've Referred to "memory cards" as "SIM cards" and "BES" as "BAS"...

- I have had the same e-mail attachment issue. The problem is that the desktop redirector does not allow attachments. Here is a quote from the Blackberry web site:
Cause 6
If BlackBerry Desktop Manager has been configured to use BlackBerry Desktop Redirector, the BlackBerry device user will not be able to view attachments. BlackBerry Desktop Redirector is not designed to allow attachment viewing.
Resolution
Uninstall BlackBerry Desktop Manager. For instructions, see KB02206.
Reinstall BlackBerry Desktop Manager, selecting the BlackBerry Internet Service or the BlackBerry Enterprise Server option.
Delete the Desktop[CMIME] and Desktop[CICAL] from the BlackBerry device's service book
Hope this helps. I was beating my head on the wall for a couple days because of this. Also owning an IT company, he should at least have T1/T2 access to RIM/Blackberry and should hold at LEAST one BES license to research/use/test/deploy/etc for his clients.Last edited by goblue; 11-25-08 at 10:04 PM.

- I see alot of problems out there, but i have had very minimal issues at all with mine.
switching from portrait to landscape sometimes takes about 2 secs, but many times it works much quicker. On rare occasion is freezes, and if i hit the back button, and reselect it goes quickly.
As far as email, I went into my attachments, could read clearly, and edit if I wanted. So not sure the issue there.
I wonder why some people are having such issues, and others seem to be working relatively smoothly. Im still looking forward to an update to help speed things up, but i have zero complaints with mine so far.11-25-08 10:13 PMLike 0
