I never understood why RIM wouldn't create some type of PC application that came with the Desktop Manager where you could use your PC to update contact information and upon syncing updated your BB accordingly. If you have over 100 contacts it is very tedious to add addresses using the phone keyboard.
I know there are ways to work around this using Excel but why can't RIM just make it easier on us?
I have to agree. I am one of the growing number of PC users without Outlook and new
to Blackberry. The absence of a desktop manager that offers a simple contact manager application is quite perplexing. This is a marketing opportunity for someone..
+ 1 - the ability to work with your address book is pre-built into the windows package (whether with outlook express on XP or the Microsoft mail program thingy in Vista)
I did not think outlook express could be used...so I was going to use my gmail contacts, but google says the storm is not supported, and that is one issue of why I have not picked up the storm yet.
So I was thinking of snyching my gmail contacts with my outlook express contacts, but I did not think outlook express could be used with the storm...
so if you can explain on how to do that, I would apreciate it...
Well if you have your contact on your phone just set up a sync with outlook express or address book.
If you need your comtacts transfered from gmail to your phone. Just export your contact from gmail using a csv format and then import it into Outlook Express. Then you can import your contact straight into your blackberry.
Also google sync with the address book ruined my contacts when i tried it out. Good thing I like to backup my stuff daily.

I've found both .CSV files and Google Sync work perfectly.
If it helps, I came from a dumbphone. I used to have Backup Manager to backup my dumbphone. Went to Backup Manager, clicked Print Version, cut and paste it into an Excel sheet, modified that into a .CSV file, and voila, imported it to the Storm without having to manually enter each of my contacts.
