I tried without wiping, then I wiped and tried, deleted .517 and redownloaded a few times, but it still never showed the OS in Loader...
For some reason i just couldnt get .517 to work, have to go back to a .607 hybrid
did you try using BBSAK to load the OS? It's never failed for me.
I tried BBSAK, I tried loader, the normal stuff, but it just wouldnt even show up on the . I deleted the version i had and tried a dif one, no luck. DLd .607 and that one worked as normal, i dont get it.
did you try to load the OS Like this?
1. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml." Vista/Win7 users: In the apploader folder, simply click on "Compatibility files" to see the actual Vendor.xml file. Once you've got that - simply delete the vendor.xml file there (even if you've deleted or think you've deleted it in the folder previously) and voila, it will allow you to update to the newly installed OS!
3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.
ok, so im trying again for round two. Still no go
"This application is not compatible with your device and cannot be loaded"
ok, so round 3: I can get loader to see .607, but not .517 or .451. I tried to replace the Java in .607 with the one from .517 and then it wouldnt see .607. Any ideas guys?
And yes, the vendor.xml is deleted out of the file, and also out of the recycle bin.
ideas ideas? CMON!
What base are you using? If you still have .607 installed, Loader.exe will default to that instead of .517.
You could look here and see if your forgetting anything

yes, but i have deleted all OS, wiped and started from the 507 screen!
your link isnt working bud
hmm. weird. works for me. the link is in my sig try that
link works, i'll try in the a.m. again
Well if you downloaded the software and installed and it still doesn't show in your Loader folder, then there's a problem with that OS. I would try to get another copy.
I wonder if your pc has a virus.
Well I'm having trouble downloading this Os also,I downloaded from three different sites and nothing I even try to throw a hybrid over my .607 lol and still stuck with the same Os.
It's good though I can deal with the opera problem, but this was the reason why I wanted too downgrade.
Good luck on yours cuz I gave up

i also tried three different versions of .517. Like I said, .607 works always with no problem, but .517 and .451 was a no go. Ive loaded almost every hybrid thats come out for the S2. However, this is a brand new S2 that came loaded with .607 from verizon, could they have changed something so that you cannot downgrade from it? I just can't figure it out.
When I mentioned uninstalling the OS, I didn't mean wiping the phone - asking if you went into Control Panel on your PC and uninstalled the BlackBerry operating system software from your PC before trying to downgrade to another OS. If you skipped that then anytime you try to install anything only .607 will be installed because that's the highest OS.
Yes, before I try to load again I delete all prior OS, and also clear out the recycle bin. I did manage to get .320 to load so that at least I could have some battery life, but still no luck with any .4xx or .517

And also let me add: its not that it won't load, but loader isn't showing that there is even an OS to load...

I had the same issue and solved it yesteday so now i am running .451 from .607. Make sure your windows is up to date and all updates have been installed (this includes service packs). Once this is done download the latest version of DM and do a custom install (not typical). Choose to prevent checking for upgrades automatically and also uncheck the "check for new versions" (or something of the sort).
Use the apploader and i am hoping you will be good to go.
Also if all this does not work try doing all this offline. I have read posts saying DM goes online to check if the OS is official and thus won't let you upload it if it is not. I didn't have to do this but you never know.
This may help the OP:
