I dunno, but I have to deal with a couple of database servers at work, and when the database for something big like our online course management system gets corrupted, it tends to spike processor and memory utilization for no apparent good reason; so it would make sense from the standpoint that a Blackberry is a computer.
Following the computer thing, a periodic OS reinstall probably isn't a bad idea for a device as complex as a BB, either (full wipe and reinstall like your method)05-28-09 10:57 PMLike 0 -

Okay, pretend that you are Verizon.... Would any of the prior leaks have passed your tests? Prior to .148; there was a DEALBREAKER type of bug in the media player, as soon as an incoming alert sound played; which required a battery pull to fix.
Now we have an OS that has a VERY GOOD CHANCE of going official, and folks like you need to come in here and be negative. VZW is NOT going to go through the efforts of planning an OS deployment without intending to release an OS>05-28-09 11:04 PMLike 0 -

Hey, as long as the databases get cleared, it's all good! (an OS wipe DOES clear the databases, right? i'm not really clear on the complete differences between a JL Commander wipe and a handheld wipe; other than the fact that the OS isn't erased with a handheld wipe.)05-28-09 11:08 PMLike 0 -

patches152Bannedwell if you're just gonna use the same OS, there's no need to wipe that part. the issue is in the databases...if it were a botched OS install, the JL Commander wipe would be prudent, but it's a tad overkill for what i'm proposing...05-28-09 11:10 PMLike 0 -

That CB Alert System blares too loud sometimes. I could be miles away from my computer and my Bluetooth will pick up on it "RELEASED NOW!"

Man .75 has been pretty good to me. I'm praying that .148 doesn't give me any trouble either.

Oh, I see..... Well, I shrunk my OS a bit while I was at it, so in my case; it was necessary! Plus, there is always the chance that a COD file got messed up somewhere along the line, so a complete OS install is always a bit comforting (sort of like that feeling you get when using a fresh install of Windows) - I can usually spare 25 minutes or so in the evening, so in my case nothing is lost.
(Plus, I come from the land of Verizon dumbphones like the LG Voyager, so even after almost 6 months, being able to load an OS onto my phone is still somewhat a novelty - I would NEVER attempt an OS flash on a Voyager for instance, it is a VERY involved process and requires hard to find, hacked versions of the loader software)05-28-09 11:17 PMLike 0 -

This probably would make a few queasy at updating.
If your phone is running .75 like smooth butter I really don't see much why you should update and risk .148 being terrible for you. As you can see, or anyone else, a Storm is unique in it's own way. If .75 is working great enough for you then stay on it. Yeah .148 is so great and fast but would you love to end up with all Battery issues or memory issues (...) or even a signal or app failure?
In all, the choice is up to you. Me though, if my phone liked .75 which it really didn't, and didn't like .148 either, I would choose .148 over .75 though, despite it doesn't like them both.05-28-09 11:19 PMLike 0 -

Oh believe me I'm sittin here thinking, "ill update to .148 and then my phone will suck since I didn't have many problems on .75"
But its (obviously) not perfect. There are a few quirks that I'd like to get rid of but they're nothing big. I don't know if ill update. We'll see.

Ok, anything is better than .75...by a long shot. Also there is a possibility that .148 beta hybrid you guys are downloading isn't the true .148 that is being released. Hence the word "Beta" which means its still in production meaning its still being worked on......so there is a good chance they made some minor tweaks to the OS. Just think of it this way....Microsoft just released Window 7 Release Canidate...which is there final or close to final build before being released....which overtime with people giving feedback that they will make the necassary tweaks and fixes before launch....same idea with the beta .148...
Unless you have 100% proof that the .148 that is leaked it the tride and true release I won't take your word. I'm only really speculating though...anything is possible, only the RIM programmers and Verizon would know weather or not it is true.05-29-09 12:40 AMLike 0 -

Wrong wrong wrong. Once RIM sends a build to a provider, it is done. Finished. Stick a fork in it. No changes are made.

the .148 that we have is leaked from the testers at VZW...
and if it's labeled .148, then anything labeled .148 is the same. this isn't a "BETA" version of .148...RIM doesn't do that, they have revisions of a core OS (4.7 for the storm), so with each improvement and set of changes, the file is given a new name, sequential in order with what else is being built upon.05-29-09 12:46 AMLike 0 -
