there are still bugs, dave..and there's always room for improvement. make the databases and files smaller for more room on the device, which allows better performance of 3rd party apps...etc.

you guys are forgetting about the ones who arent too good with technology and are afraid to upgrade with a leak. an official update sounds amazing to me because i dont have any leaks, go Verizon!

Man, I was hoping for version .203 not .148. I downloaded .148 and it killed my battery and had a horrible leak. Can't see how this one is going to pass. SUCKS!!
Try doing a device backup, wipe the phone, and reinstall .148 - run the phone for a day or so with no 3rd party apps, and make note of how it runs.

Now, one by one, reinstall your apps; and note the Storm's behavior. Once it starts killing battery and memory, make note of the last app installed. Try uninstalling said app, if the Storm behaves itself again, you've found your offending app.... I know Weatherbug has been known to cause a memory leak, and some GPS apps can be hard on battery life. So think accordingly.

I hope this get approved! But it looks like some us are going to have to wait almost 2 weeks after May 31 before we get the update. That stinks, but I'll be happy with an official upgrade no matter what.
So you run the leaked version for a couple of weeks, and then, if it's really bothering you, backup your phone, wipe it, and install the official package. It won't really make a difference though.

I'm thinking once it starts rolling out, it will take less than 2 weeks for the local install package to make its way onto the VZW download site.

Might be the phone itself. Freakin crazy how it effects one phone one way and another phone another way. Same apps on .132 that I had on .148 with the leaks. Pisses me off!!
I'm pretty sure that alot of changes are made to certain java modules between different builds, so an app that doesn't exhibit a leak on one OS will exhibit a leak on another OS. Another possibility is one of your device databases has been corrupted during the OS install procedure. There was a recent thread about this, and the solution was to basically back up only the contacts and calendar; and then to wipe the phone, reinstall ONLY the OS, and reinstall every 3rd party app from scratch.

Do you have VZ navigator installed one thing that i noticed is when i uninstalled it GPS didnt work but when i installed it and hid it GPS worked. I dont know if its a Verizon thing.
It's really weird all of the GPS issues people are having.

I'm running .148 and a massively shrunken OS, the ONLY GPS enabled app I have is Google maps.... and it works down to 3m accuracy.

so whats the day 1-2 30k stuff? will i lose my apps when i update?
    05-28-09 10:29 PM
  13. patches152's Avatar
you won't lose anything. if you do OTA, its just a bunch of patches ( ) and they overwrite the files on your phone, so there's no wipe or anything where you'll lose any apps or memory. just OS files are updated.

and if you use DM, they offer a backup/restore setting, just make sure you enable it when you update.

LOL!! Yeah really. Using the same OS as the commoners. So uncivilized
I agree, bring on the next leak. I was considering moving back to .141 from 148. The first time I pretty much decide to down grade and now VZW makes it offical...

idk how i came up with the corrupt database idea...but i'm glad it helps people, especially with .148 (bridge to business FTW)

this is one OS that we should all load, no matter what carrier...as long as you're on a 9530, you NEED .148!!!

Anyone stop to think about this....

VZW releases an update to lower(but not fix all) issues with phone,
RIM gives more OS's to test.
Shortly after, VZW releases a better os... "4.7.0.2xx"
    ..(just speculation)
Verizon needs to get something out.. they're losing sales over an os!!
