Well Vodafones Repair Policy works like this;
Your phone goes to get repaired at by VF engineers - if that doesnt work thats when it is sent to the manufacturer to be fixed or replaced.
after 3 repairs you get offered an exchange.
law has nothing to do with it in my eyes - you can use it as an excuse of course but most faults customers have are down to how they ******* use the thing.
