I just loaded OS 4.7.0.148 and as I was loading the Loader said I had 47 Meg of Applications checked as I have stripped out just about everything else I can think of. However after the Load, I only have 21 Meg free even after a battery pull. I hear others saying they have 50 Meg free.

If there is 128 to start and I am only loading 47 what happens to the other 81 Meg?

Any and all help would be appreciated.

its not a verizon memory issue, your operating system and applications use that space too

most people dont start with more than 40-50 mbs free. i boot up with ~45 free, for what its worth.

    40-50

I just upgraded to .148 yesterday and I haven't booted over 33mb. Is that an issue...I don't have alot of apps, about 5 or so themes and I deleted apps I don't use.

I keep hearing of people who boot up with 40-50MB, but even after installing .148 the best I'm at is 33MB. Here's everything that's being loaded up, ideas on what I can/should strip out to get more memory (I know, probably doesn't matter, 33MB is more than ample, but would like to get rid of unnecessary apps, mods, cods and the like. Anyone see anything below that is really memory resource hungry?

What I can tell from that crazy long list that I just skimmed through is you seem to have a lot of apps and themes. I would start there and get rid of any languages and IM clients you don't use.
Also search for shrink-a-os and use that to strip out what you don't need.

Thanks for the response, however I don't have any languages (other than English, removed them all from the install) or IM clients (at least not that I can see). Am I missing the obvious in the list?

Would be nice to get someone's XML file from their upgrade and compare (I wrote quick program to scan my install XML file to pull out the list of modules). If anyone who just upgraded to new OS .148 and has a boot-up in 40-50MB range can PM me with their XML file from the "loader history" directory on your PC I can then compare modules and see what excess modules I might have.

How do I pull the list of what is loading? I have loaded no themes, and have stripped out all languages. I have removed all but just a few aps and when i boot i boot with less than 20MB free.

I have more free app memory also, after installing .148.

Now I hover in the mid to high 30's.

I did use Shrink-A-Os which possibly helped.

I'm running the leaked .148, which is the same thing, and I took advise from Patches and he was right. I too have a ton of apps, games, launchers etc. and I load around 27-29 on every reboot. At first, I was dropping down to the teens withing an hour and single digits after and it was driving me crazy. Then I saw in a different tread that patches said to use the default theme because 3rd party ones drain your battery. I did that and "WOW" he was right. Ever since, My memory does not move no more than 1 MB up and down all day and I even have Weatherbug, which people say sucks up your memory. I know the default theme is not as fancy as all the themes being made but if you are memory conscious then it might be something to ponder. It took a while for me to get used to, but my Storm runs like a dream...can't wait for .151 to see what this baby can really do.

Below is the key part of your list. All the rest he ones that start out with "net_rim" are oarts of the OS, you could play around with "Shrink-a-OS" and maybe lean out some of that. Many recommend removing DocsToGo, Voice Dialing, etc. You could also remove BBMessenger if you don't actually use it.

From the list below, do you actually use VZNavigator and Visual VoiceMail (subscription services from Verizon)? If not remove them, they're pretty big.

I also see some redundant apps. Do you need both WSJ and USA Today? Pandora and Slacker?

Themes typycally consume a lot of memory space. You could delete the ones that you aren't using.

Finally, with the list of apps you have (the ones I copied below), 30 or so MB free sounds about right. You didn't do anything wrong, you're just using the memory for your apps. Do you want lots of free space, or do you want the apps that you use? The more apps you install, the less free space you have, so unless your phone is constantly running out of memory or crashing, don't worry about the total.

How the CRAP are you guys getting such high memory!?? I currently have
    Level
    VCAST Music
    Trapster
    Pandora
    Poynt
    Youmail Visual
    Google Maps
    BB Maps

I had weatherbug but it wasn't working since I downloaded .148 last night and so i just erased it. Before i downloaded .148 i had .132 but my memory has ALWAYS been at the 24MB range during start up. Prior to .132 it'd taper off pretty fast to the single digits. After .132 it stayed between 24MB and 18MB. Now after i downloaded .148 i get 30MB but even after i deleted weatherBug it hasn't increased more than 30MB. Is something still eating my memory?? Rarely do i even run my GPS or many apps at the same time..

I started this thread and was typically at around 10MB free. I just decided to do a wipe of my device and start over. So far so good. After wipe I boot with 55MB free. I am selectively adding back applications and seeing what happens to memory.

This process will take a few hours but I was wasting this much time doing battery pulls all day long.
