I've had my storm since late December having bought it new from Verizon. I love this phone. Anyway a strange thing happened today...
Around 3pm I realized I hadn't gotten any email or facebook updates or anything which seemed rather odd. I sent myself a test message and it never came through either. I reset the connections and even did a battery pull and still nothing was coming through. So I decided to go into the email setup and got a message that this device was registered to a different pin and did I want to put it to my pin? I wrote down the number and said yes and proceeded to set up my email. I had to enter my password and was then prompted to enter the password for an email address that isn't mine or anyone else that belongs to me.
I'm really confused as to what happened and how it happened. The phone has not left my pocket or my night stand since I got it. I did order some software through crackberry and had to give my pin for that but no other numbers or information.
Can someone explain what happened, how it happened, how I can avoid it from happening again, what security on my device they could have gotten access to (I don't really have much on there other than contacts but...) and if I need to do anything with Verizon (inform them of what happened)
The only thing I can think of is some kind of error through customer service. MAybe if someone typoed something, and accidentally altered your account or pin instead of someone elses
Another possibility could be that someone bought a Storm that has a pin that is almost the same as yours and typed in the wrong pin. They could have used a "o" in place of a "0".
When I had a pearl replaced a while back I got home and realized it wasn't my phone number. When I went back they said they must have mixed up numbers and given me someone elses. So I can see how that could happen.

The same thing happened to me a few months ago with my VZW 8830. My original 8830 broke and VZW replaced it. Everything was fine for a few months, and then, as with yours, my email stopped working. I went to email setup and got the same message that my device was registered to a different pin and did I want to put it to my pin.
Instead of responding I called Verizon. The tech explained that the pin of my second 8830 had never been properly registered, but he corrected that. As to why it worked for several months before the problem became apparent, there was no explanation for that. I suspect he latched onto an obvious answer when I told him this was my second device. The fact that you've had the same problem would indicate something else going on, but I have no idea what it would be.
Easy man, no one needs to lose their pin today... The pin just wants to go home, to its rightful phone. It wont bother anyone, and the police will stay out of it.
lets just talk this through like rational blackberry users, we can all get along here.
Something like that happened to my 8830 in nov I called verizon they said it was happening to a lot of people that they were having problems with software on their end she apologized and fixed. Granted could have been a load of crap to keep me happy. They resent my service books as well I think. Good luck
