II works fine on my phone. I record my daughter all oh the time. It is either a software or user error.

then you must have got the one in a million phone....NONE of the storms I have seen, 4 friends, 6 salesman, and every store demo in northern NJ works right...Some don't record longer than 30 seconds, other's get the card error.

I make 2 in a million. I took my kids to a fair yesterday and tried to record several times. 5 of the 7 videos failed and gave me one or the other of the same msgs that the OP stated. The other 2 videos played fine, but I was very disappointed. Yesterday was the 1st time I have used the video camera.
I don't use my video recorder a whole lot. I have tested it a little. So far, every video I have recorded has played back fine. However, the longest video I have done was just a couple of minutes long.
Mine have all come out excellent. My daughters second birthday, her birthday party.. etc. I upload to my PC burn them on to DVD. I've never had a problem with playback/saving in any of the builds.
If you search, there are multiple existing threads about this problem.
This is a known issue with the Storm. Those that claim to not experience it may be using a leaked OS (I've heard that the latest ones address this problem). But the official release still has this problem.

After recording a video on the BlackBerry Storm smartphone, playing the video results in the following error message:
The media being played is an unsupported format.

This is a previously reported issue that has been escalated internally to our development team. No resolution time frame is currently available.
Workaround
Once the video recording is complete, close the Video Camera application and play the file from the media player as follows:
1. When finished recording, press the Pause button.
2. Press the menu button.
3. Press the menu button.
4. From the list, select the necessary video file.

Mine works perfectly. Guess we can throw away that 1 in a million stat.......
Try and keep in mind, it's a phone first. It's wasn't meant to be a great video recorder.
My video recorder doesn't work very often either, between frequent crashes and "unsupported format" it has little to no reliability.
The reason i quoted this user is because i am soooOOOooo sick of this excuse being offered for the storm. I am not RIM bashing, i am keeping my storm, however, being the first time for something is no excuse for it not to work. Features like alarm clocks, cameras and video recorders have been featured on cell phones for a very long time. There is no excuse for ANY features on a device not working, you paid for it, it should work...period. I am willing to give it SOME time to be worked out, but the way it works now is not acceptable.
But hopefully RIM knows this and is working towards solutions.
Anecdotal story (i.e., take it with a grain of salt):
I dropped by RIM's booth at CES a few weeks ago and talked with an engineer there (he was the only technical/non-sales person there I could find). We talked about some of the problems with the Storm, and I mentioned the video recording problem as described by the OP. He didn't believe me, so I took two of his demo Storms on display and turned on the video recorder. To his disbelief, both demo units failed with recording (I checked, both were running .75). He said he'd take that back to the developers, FWIW.
BTW, off-topic: the click screens on all the demo Storms really sucked. The RIM guy was aware of the business card trick but not the torx fix. He *claimed* that they were redesigning the PCB to fix this issue. No idea when it would be ready and what would happen to existing units sold.
I've had mixed results as well. So far, out of seven recordings, three failed to save. One of the successful recordings didn't play back at first, but on second attempt it played fine.
I am on .75 so I expect issues.

I had a phone that would constantly freeze when videoing. got a replacement and the new phone, for the most part, is fine. I suggest you do the same. You shouldn't have to deal with a bullsh!t work-around.
With all the probs the storm has, I can't believe that people still have the audacity to quickly assume user error. Freaken' ridiculous!
That's weird, I too am on .75 and have had no issues with video.
Consider yourselves very lucky, because enough people have encountered the problem that RIM has issued an official technical bulletin stating that they're trying to fix it.

It's still a phone that used this as feature for some user's to buy vs. the Iphone. Again, we don't have to continue to accept the way the phone is working. They say it has certain features and we should expect them to work.
