ok folks here is my situation. I surely would appreciate your comments.

I have been reading the forum and other reviews on the Storm--it seems to be a love/hate relationship for many.

I have a Pearl with Vzw and am pleased with it except the keyboard is becoming tiresome. I get an upgrade in 7/09.

I use the Pearl primarily for phone, email, websurfing and occasional camera. I do not text, use video, or play music. Nor do I do a lot of game playing on the phone. I have a separate GPS but might consider using the phone if it works as well as the Garmin Nuvi 350.

I have been give 1 year upgrade price of $269 with no further discount by the Vzw rep which I can exercise at any time.

So I am asking you hardcore Storm people for you thoughts--go for it now or wait.

    I do appreciate your replies.

    Thanks,

    Mike

i've had my storm for almost a month now, and i like many storm users have had a few complaints, the storm takes a bit of getting used to as far as i can tell. the os a little behind their apps at this point, but by 7/09 a lot of that should be under control, (word is an official os update by the end of march), my storm is basically my brain in and out of my office, after the first couple weeks of getting it set up and tailored to my preference it's a dream.

all in all my advice is for 269 i'd get the storm, try it out and see if you fall in love with it the way most of us have. and if all else fails exchange it within 15 days.

I absolutely love my storm, best phone I have ever had. Im a convert from i-phone too. Like alwaysonthemove, its basically the brains to my operation. Its much more business savvy than alot of these other phones. Just like with any new product it will have kinks, which should be resolved by July.

I would go ahead invest the money into the phone. You wont regret. I recently updated to beta .103 and my phone almost runs perfect. Still little glitches here or there, but nothing that would deter me from telling anyone else to buy the phone. GO FOR IT!

You could also refer to the already numerous threads posted on the Pro's and Con's of the Storm. Unless you'd rather we repeat ourselves here again, for the umpteenth time, so that you aren't inconvenienced with having to read through those.

Seriously, is it THAT hard to find a "talk me into buying/not buying the Storm" thread in this forum? Must one be started for EVERY person that can't make up their own mind? Better than that, you can try it with no obligation for 30 days and get first hand experience!

Here's a simple suggestion to those on the fence to maybe prevent even more of these redundant threads: If you even have a LITTLE interest in this device, go to the Verizon store and try the demo. If you are still intrigued, get one. Come back here and read the tips and tricks threads and do the firmware upgrades. If you like it, please share your thoughts.. If you don't, take it back before a month is up but PLEASE, don't bore us with a long thread on why you took it back and how much better your (insert device here) is. We already know why it's being returned.

We are more interested in why a person kept it.

I just used my 2 year last week and got mine. Honestly web browsing is great specially on opera mini or bolt. Go for it if you don't like return b4 15 days and wait for 8900 or bold which ever comes first. I am having fun with mine no regrets yet. I was going to wait for full keyboard cause I LOVED my 8830. But I say go for it!

Some people have different uses for it and would like to get opinions on it. The title made it very clear on what this thread was about so it would have save you a lot of time by not even clicking on it.

And for me as someone that doesn't own a Storm yet I don't just want to hear from the people that like the phone. If I wanted that I could just find a sales person that wants to talk it up then toss my money on the counter. For me finding out why someone doesn't like it helps just as much.

I've had my Storm since December and I believe it is a good phone. The keyboard might take some getting use to but that is really about it. I'm running the .103 firmware and it runs great but I was having good response too from the official firmware (.75). Your best bet is to hit the store and get your hands on it and see if it is what you want.

I've had mine for just over a month, and I still love it as much, if not more, than the day I got it. I've been using touch screen phones for about 2 years now, so I was fairly used to it, just not the click. RIM seems to be fairly on point when it comes to updates, I am comparing this to WinMo which never gets updated. It does what its supposed to, apps and themes are starting to come out, and it looks good.

Ditto the rest. Liked my phone when I first bought it... Love it with the new updates and after getting used to it. Give it a shot.

Its a great device (it's a blackberry so that's a given. Things like call quality and capabilities are as solid as the pearl.

However with any, all touch, device there is a learning curve. Like typing and where things are.

Since you read this forum (huge start / advangtage) you probally have some know how and a place to go for help.

My recomendation would be to take advantage of their 30-day return period and go with the storm. I'm pretty sure the Curve would work great for your needs but since that's a given use the 30-day return period to test out the storm.

I really like my phone. I had a problem with my first storm, and it was replaced recently, and have not experienced any problems since.

The best advice I can probably give if you are not sure about the storm is go to a verizon store and test one out. Also, if you have a friend who has one ask if you can use it to give it a try. Like you said, there is a love/hate relationship with the phone. A lot of people love it, and a lot of people hate it. I have been finding that people who bought the storm expecting it to be like the iphone were disappointed.

From what you were saying though, it sounds like you are in the market for another blackberry. Since it is a first generation touch screen from bb there are going to be some "growing pains." Software, updates and things like that... But all and all, it really isn't that bad of a device to move into.

But, really the best advice is to get your hands on one and use it for a little while to see how you like it. If there is something that bothers you about it it may just get worse, or it may bother you less, that is for you to decide... Personally I love my storm and don't regret buying it for a second.

Depending on ** the browser situation plays out by july, and on what order you rank your stated usage, I would likely suggest a different pearl or world edition. I have a storm and yes, it is a love affair, but the storm does have its weaknesses.

The email system is superb, but you knew that already because it is a blackberry. I enjoy th large screen for reading them, but most of my executive clients are more than happy with screens on the world edition etc and happier with the keyboard.

The keyboard on the storm ia not on par with a physical one. You ca get use t it and type plenty fast but it will frustrate you at times ands not as polished as the phone. You can review typing speeds on this board with a search and see the physical keyboards do come out quite ahead.

The phone is one of the weaker points on the storm unfortunately. You have to hold it in a certain way for the speaker to pick up your voice and an app like stom lock is a necessity so you don't mute with your cheek. The speaker hone is good, better then the phone, but not as good as the pearls or world edition.there's also the edition of lag. When yo hit the call key, you may have to wait a couple seconds before it registers. its not a big deal but may be maddening for some.

As for the camera it is good enough for mostpeoples use and great for many. There are phone with superio optics but not a blackberry.

It always comes down to what you need, what you expect, and what you don't care about. You should view the storm as a sell computer, not a phone. Just as your laptop can make calls so can your storm, but it is not the primary function.you don't watch videos or listen to music, which is a large hit against the stom. That and the internet connectivity are the reason for the large screen and why people are willing to drop a physical keyboard and dedicated phone functionality.
Please recognize that you can find the advantages of this hone in plenty of places, this post was meant to be forthcoming with some of the downsides. I tweak my phone relentlessly so many of the above issues are nonexistent for me. But most consu.ers are not going tp go through the trouble work them out and believe they should not have to. I love my storm and I have used most. I do some crazy things though like stream my baby camera to my phone act that requires a cutting edge and open phone like the storm. Decidin whether or not the storm, with its strengths and sacrifices, are worth it for you is a personal decision. Hope I helped.

Ps. I wrote the above at probably 30 wpm without backspace or editing on the storm. Not as good as a physical keyboard but probably good enough for most.
