My storm seems to stay on. I hold the I/O key and it appears to power off with the Verizon logo and subsequent screen blackout but rings when calls come in or chimes when messages come in. I have to pull the battery overnight to make sure it powers off. Has anyone had problems with powering off?

Welcome to Blackberry. Blackberry's in general do not turn off. If you do not want it on at night, click on the Manage connections on the home screen and turn off the connection, or use the Auto on/off function.
You can get to the auto on/off function by clicking on Options then auto on/off. Set your times and your set.

Yea, I use the Auto on/off feature and it seems to work well.
