Following the advice with apploader, I can get a little bit further to `updating your device`, and `reconnecting to JVM`, at this point I can hear it connecting and disconnecting, and the it tells me at the end of this process that it is unable to connect to the device. Any Ideas?

First, what OS do you have on your phone now and second, what OS are you trying to go to?

If it is not official from your carrier make sure you deleted the vendor file.

You could maybe try loader.exe with the /nojvm switch?

You will need the command prompt, it is in the windows/system32 directory... (cmd.exe)

    At the prompt.... type:-

    CD \
    CD Program Files
    CD Common Files
    CD Research In Motion
    CD Apploader
    Loader /nojvm

    e.g.:-

(if your OS is 64bit, it will be the Program Files (x86) directory you need to go into not the Program Files one)
