With the Storm 1 update set to roll out (Oct. 26th) before the Storm 2 (est. between Oct 28th-Mid. Nov) does anyone think that it will hurt Storm 2 sales?

Or at least stop people from jumping from their Storm 1 to Storm 2.

Let's hope the update is that good

People may perform the upgrade and test it, but there is going to be that crowd that wont care, they just HAVE to have the "latest and greatest" device available, also, some will want to have the newer technology for their screen.

BINGO! You just described me and, I suspect, a lot of other users. Well played.

Wi-Fi is not an issue for me, and I've never really had an issue typing on my Storm. Thus, the main attraction to me was whether the Storm 2 would have a far superior OS than the Storm 1. Well, 5.0.0.323 solved that dilemma, and I'm really loving the speed and threaded text messages. The OS update will hold me over...

I don't see it hurting the potential sales of the Storm2. Many people will take advantage of the OS upgrade on the Storm1 to hold them over until they are ready for either their annual or bi-annual upgrade.

adding wi-fi and a few new improvements arent enough to trick me into a new 2 yr contract..and theres no way im paying shelf price for one..the OS (.323) is just as satisfying..im going to wait.

True. That's why I sign 1 year contracts. It's the middle ground.

I dont think so but i bet there will be alot of storm 1 owners complaining to get the storm 2 for a good price since the storm 1 has so many issues to begin with.

I don't believe so. The OS update is a milestone for the S1 and if the update is not released, there wd be a lot of unhappy customers.

the OS will not hurt sales it will be the Droid who rocks bb back to last place. **** folks will buy S2 and then Droid drops week later and people see how much more the Droid is they will be exchanging it

I agree on that cuz verizon wont release the storm2 without a release of a new OS for the storm1. Very smart of them to do right.

Cool guys. I'm with the general consensus. I'm going to see how much of a game changer the Storm 1 OS update turns out to be and then go from there. If I like it I'll hold out until January when I have my upgrade and see what info there is on future devices. If I don't I'm going to try and upgrade early but I'd like more info on the Essex and other BBs droppin on the VZW. I can't go Droid. I'll play with it in the store, sure, but I don't know if I can make the switch.

The Storm2 is better hardware. I think that will be the major selling point. We'll have to see how much the OS update fixes everything and makes the original Storm better.

I don't see the Storm 2 as the Second Coming of Christ like some people do. My Storm 1 has never ever have any performance or typing issue. I don't need WiFi on my phone as I have unlimited data. If I am at home or office where WiFi are available, I would rather use my Centrino laptop instead of the tiny little phone (which is really a no-brainer). And at public locations like Starbuck's, I will never use the public WiFi as it is NOT safe. Ask your IT security folks at your employers and they will tell you why.

I believe Verizon is rolling out the 5.0 software in hopes to keep down the onslaught of people that want the S2 as an upgrade for free!

Can you imagine all the S1 owners that are gonna complain that their phones are constantly rebooting, and all the problems they are having with the 4.7 OS.

Verizon wants the S1 owners to have a stable faster OS, so they won't complain that they need a new phone. Just my 2 cents
