Besides turning screen brightness down, lower the backlight timer, and closing down unused programs.....

I noticed my battery runs longer when

I removed voice dialing from my phone

**** Turned off location aiding completely. This makes the biggest difference
Instead I turned GPS to location on which didn't hurt battery life.

Lastly .76 OS made a big difference too

Let me know your results and other tips.

I posted this in another thread but for Mobile Network settings, I selected "Off When Roaming" cause I take the subway to work and back everyday...and most times, there isnt a signal in the tunnels so the phone searching for a network really drains things

I lowered the brightness of the screen to 30%, switched to 1EVX, selected Off When Roaming.

Unplugged the phone from the charger around 1pm yesterday. Was on the phone, sent text messages, browsed web and 24 hours laters, I still have 3 bars left on my phone. According to my status, I have 60% battery left.

The off when roaming is just for data..... I doubt this helps your phone save a lot of battery when roaming. When roaming or out of service your phone will always be looking for the home network or service in general.

Any tips for getting it out of landscape(in a timely manner) when I pull it out of my pocket to answer a call? Any tips for having it not go to landscape when I set it down? Any tips locking it into portrait until I deem that it should go to landscape? Those would be some great tips as well.

draining the batt fully and a couple of overnight charges to follow has helped boost batt life. I also just turned my phone off and charged it for 12 hours when I first got it without using it at all.

    1) Depends on what you mean by "timely"...as far as I know, the switch from portrait to landscape and vice versa isn't instant

    2) Don't think that's possible

    3) I'm sure locking the orientation isn't possible

No, no and no. Thats the job of the accelerometer. When my phone is laying down flat, it goes to landscape, depending how I place it down. When I get a phone call, it goes to portrait. Same goes for when its in my leather horizontal pouch. Its in landscape but quickly goes to portrait when I lift the phone out and hold it in my hands.

I was wondering this also...my assumption is that location aiding is the aGPS that comes associated with VZNav?...so if you didnt pay for VZNav, then there's no point in having location aiding on?

location aiding = aGPS. it's a background service that runs and will drain your battery. GPS alone will just be accessed when an app is using it.

I have the Off when Roaming turned on but since it only pertains to data, doesnt seem that it will help battery

I posted this on another thread and got no response, so I'll try it here since my questions about the stanby mode are also about saving battery .....

Here are a few questions about the standby mode(s):

    1) When the screen goes into standby (as it does under defaulted settings), I assume that the apps are still running, right? In other words, screen standby saves "some" battery but certainly nowehere near as much as turning the device off.

    2) OEM Holster: I am using the holster from my 7130c (which fits great -- although a little tight on the sides) which puts the unit into standby when holstered. Is this holster standby the same as the one mentioned above in my first question? In other words, does it only put the screen on standby?
Is there any advantage to having the holster standby (as opposed to just having the screen go into standby as it does by default)?

A follow up to (2): if there is an advantage, are there other companies selling holsters that will put the Storm in standby... or only the OEM?

This is the main reason why phone techs hate fixing any mobile phone with media capabilities. Probably the number one reason why there is a "liquid" damage rule too.

    true, but....

turning off the data services does save battery in places with poor coverage.

My workshop is in the dead center of my house in the basement an I am always between no service/2 bars, and as with all my previous phones, when I have my phone downstairs the battery lasts about 1/3 of the time of normal out and about travelling.

With my Storm it was even worse but when I turn of the data services the battery life on the edge of the signal area is back to normal battery use rate

in general CDMA battery life is very dependent on signal strenth - if you have poor coverage the phone must transmit with more power and even on standby the phone goes through the battery faster. But with this phone i am seeing battery go down even when not making alot of calls.

Bluetooth is also a drain on battery - you can turn that off when not planning on using it.

    Screen brightness

I am going through the battery about twice as fast as i did with my 8830.

I purchased a second battery that i keep charged and with me when i travel so i can always swap out when in a pinch.

I would like to have a disposable battery, which would have longer shelf life than a rechargeable, that I can carry around as a spare in case I run out of juice. I rarely run out, but it can happen. This way I won't have to worry about keeping a spare battery charged.
