I called verizon yesterday because I am going to Ireland and wanted to figure out what to do with the sim card and everything and the woman said that the sim card is a special one and only that one can be used for the storm. She said it was much larger than most so normal sims won't fit in. Is this true? She also said tethering is $30 a month with the BIS plan. I think this lady was full of it, can anyone tell me whats up?

The SIM is the same as other carriers, thats why it can be unlocked and used on other GSM providers. If you want to use their SIM and keep your number you can with no worries, if you wanted a local number from Ireland they will need to unlock it for you so you can use other SIMs. you can also unlock it yourself using the link in my signature.

I only pay $15.00 / month to tether. No special deals, nada.

It should be $15 on top of the standard BIS plan ($30). For international tethering it may very well be higher.

It's $60 total to tether a BB, this was standardized in '08.
    BIS $30 to tether
    BES $15 to tether

There was a $15 BIS loophole, but from everyone i've talked to at vzw, this is now gone.

To the OP. I believe with the Storm, there is an international add on that is actually rather affordable.

with a 4.99 monthly plan its 99cents a minute and for data you need the international data plan which is 65$ a month (which replaces the BIS $30 plan)

So I'm not going to pay an extra 40 bucks for 2 weeks over seas! But for a business person who travels a lot I would see it as affordable

You can add and remove the "GlobalEmail" plan at any time, i.e. pay only the prorated difference.
