I'd agree that the Storm 1 and 2 are BB's story of trying to run before you can walk.

To bail on a product in circulation (for all intents and purposes) after only 9 or so months is appalling, yet not surprising.

I feel like there is so much more that BB can offer based on being first class in the messaging world, but Iphone and Droids are absolutely sh1tkicking RIM's products in Media and Browsing... things the Storm 2 were supposed to be Better at.

I'd assume that you had better get ready for more pain and suffering as technology upgrades continue to come in shorter and shorter gaps, and ultimately it's us consumers who are to blame for buying into these contracts to get reduced purchase prices on these devices.

Exactly thank you Johnny you couldn't have said it any better, I am locked into this lousy contract with this stupid Blackberry.

Funny thing about the ole the grass is always greener on the other side, sadly in this case it is. RISM is stuck in 2008.

They couldn't even update their stinkin icons for christs sake. They have been using that same Bold icon set for years. Creativity is something that RISM has never given a flying monkey **** about.

Well, I'm probably (unfortunately) switching to Android next time around, but I won't be buying anything until the end of the year anyway. Well unless my Storm two accidentally gets run over or has some other sort of unfortunate accident. And I actually like my Storm2, I just don't like it enough to want another of the same thing later, which is pretty much what I expect from RIM within the next six months or so.

As far as OS 6 goes, here's the deal. I'm going to be flat out honest here and say that I just plain don't give a rip about OS6. What I DO give a rip about is that we have a virtually unusable browser and that I purchased the S2 AFTER development of the Webkit browser began with the understanding that we would receive the new browser. There it is, the browser is ALL I care about. ALL I FREAKING WANT IS A USABLE BROWSER! DID YOU HEAR THAT RIM? It has taken RIM at least a year to slowly whip up a browser that still may not be as good as the one on Android AND it's only going to be available for OS6. I do NOT believe for even a split nanosecond that it is not possible to get a usable browser on the Storm2. RIM just doesn't want us to have one because they want us to buy a new phone.

But why would I buy a new phone from RIM? I honestly can't think of a reason right now other than SurePress and I would rather have a usable browser at this point. Buying another phone from RIM will mean buying another phone that is at least a year behind the competition; a phone that still packs the minimum hardware requirements to run OS6, which means it won't be upgradeable next year and between now and next year it's going to be at least somewhat clunky because the hardware is overwhelmed by the OS.

And let me say it again for RIM to hear. ARE YOU REALLY NOT SMART ENOUGH TO CREATE A USABLE BROWSER FOR DEVICES THAT ARE ONLY 9 MONTHS OLD???

I've held on and waited, and waited, and waited, and I just don't think I can wait any longer. I like my Blackberries in most respects, but the things that are problems for me are HUGE! I want to stick with them, I really do, but I don't think I can unless they pull something out of their behinds soon.

Oh yeah, I don't think the 9800 is going to be a hot seller. It looks nice and everything, but it's not enough. Not enough processor, not enough memory, and an ancient display. And it's on AT&T, so it won't compete with the iPhone and it's certainly not going to draw even BB addicts from other carriers.

    Sad...makes me want to cry...

It doesn't make me want to cry, because as of right now, for me the most important things for me are (in order of importance)
    1. Making/taking calls
    2. Making/receiving email in a speedy, safe and secure way
    3. Keeping my calendar and appt's synced and sound with outlook
    4. Performing Google Maps and well.
    5. Texting/BBMing
    6. Media Activities (MP3's, video clips, streaming)
    7. Web browsing
    8. fun apps (Games, etc)

My BB Storm 2 does items 1-5 very well, better than Iphone or Droid can do as far as I can tell from looking at friends etc, it does 8 fairly well, but fails epically at 6 & 7... I guess I could always go buy an IPod for this, but I bought the Storm 2 to replace three devices and get rid of a paper calendar/diary/notebook...

    baby steps

that all being said I am very annoyed as of right now that RIM hasn't gotten an announcement out yet on updating the Storm browser... sadly I cannot use any other Smartphone that will sync my personal and work life except for a BB (Work rules) therefore I am stuck.

I was at a VZ store yesterday to buy a battery and there was a professional looking fellow in there buying some new accessories for his new droid x. From his conversation with the rep, it seems that he has had his phone a couple of weeks.
    He gets a call.
    He fumbles with the phone.
    He misses said call.
Says it was just his wife and can call her back.
A discussion ensues with the tech about how clunky the PHONE feature is. (the tech also rocks a droid)

    Just sayin.

I have the Droid X right now and if the guy couldnt answer a phone call there is a problem with him, not the phone. I have my screen locked, when a call comes in you get a green phone icon on the left side of the phone and a red phone icon on the right side of the phone. To take the call you drag the green icon to the right, to silence the ringer and not take the call you drag the red icon left. It doesnt get any easier than that, and my screen is locked.

    Just sayin.

That's the biggest amt of bs I've heard. Think about it! Bb n at&t began work on os6 16 months ago!!!!! S2 came out 9 months ago. No damn apple 3gs consumer wld have tolerated not getting ios4 if it was released just 9 mths after! They shld have said something bout it months ago.

N by releasing os6 they're essentially admitting os 5 is garbage tho its only a year old. So instead of trying to correct that error, they release new crap n ditch all their existing customers who has put up w a cr@ppy os for a year.

N yes e browser is unusable. If all u care about is "getting there", go get yourself a dial up modem n use a landline to make calls. It shld b enuf for u.

Interesting that you seemed to overlook my main points. I'm simply asking to be shown an official statement from RIM, declaring that the S2 would run on OS6? If what I'm saying is "bs" than prove this and I will apologize.

Yeah, Apple is just famous for releasing so much information so far ahead of time...you bet, they're an open book <cough>. I'd be very surprised if there were not threads here discussing 6 (with rumors and speculation) a long, long time ago. People are buying Storm 2's today, so what's your point? I know I would not do that. I know that I got my S2 near release day and I'm not sitting here crying and moaning, if 6 does not work on my device. My device is still doing what I wanted it to do, the way I wanted it to do, back when I bought it, so why should I cry about an update, almost a year later, that won't work on my phone? It's called technology, live with it

Since when, please tell me, does releasing an uprade to ANY software, imply that what came previous, was "garbage?" LOL....hilarious! So, I guess that means that virtually ever iteration of any Apple, Microsoft, Linux or every game, utility, etc. that's ever had an upgrade are admitting that previously, they had "garbage?" Please, help me with this logic. Yes, upgrades usually bring improvements and new additions, and drop others and, theoretically are improvements. Again, what's your point? BTW, the OS updates from my 9550 have fixed every issue I had with the original. It's not perfect, but it's working great. So, what's your pont?

Finally, the browser. Perhaps I'm just a bit more adept than you with using the browser, but it does what I expect it to 95% of the time (sorry, I know you expect 100%). I have about 25 bookmarks or so, of sites I frequently visit. Three of these are my own personal sites, used for my business. Yep, unfortunately, my primary site is Flash based and so, I can't use my phone there, but doggone it, I seem to recall that I knew this when I bought the phone. Shame on me! And, ::: thinking hard here :::: what devices were playing Flash when the S2 came out? Seriously, I'm not sure if there was an Android release that could do it at the time, so it may be possible, but ok, we got one...what's your point? I freely admitted that the browser wasn't great, but that it worked for me, and that consists of far more than simply "getting there." Perhaps you visit some other types of sites that I don't (you hittin' the porn sites?), but more times than not, it works for me, just not as perfectly as I'd like (and knew would eventually be fixed).

    Bottom line, what's your point?

    Talk about "bs" LOL!

Most people are done with RIM on a personal level (like myself). My personal phone, as well as my wifes, are Non-RIM. However, my phone supplied to me by work is a BB, so that is why there is a a lot of us here. not because we are fo belovedly attached. However, its a lot easier for people to compare THEIR needs and feeling when they use different types of phones compare to BB for better or worse, and not "playing with a friends".

I bought a motorola droid a couple weeks ago....

Hacked it... installed Froyo 2.2 and full flash support on it.....

The browser absolutely destroys my Storm 2 browser (especially with the droid having full flash)

Combine the better browsing experience, the much wider selection of apps and the fact the the phone is still being supported (unlike the storm 2)......... and it looks like RIM is going to have to really step up their game before I buy another blackberry.

Its not just the people on these forums. Everyone is realizing. Three of my family members just switched to droids from blackberry's. And so did a couple of my friends.

The only thing I miss right now, is the better email. Thats it. And email on the droid isn't even that bad.

RIM is falling way behind right now. You can love your blackberry for what it is, but you can't deny that RIM is falling behind in the smartphone world.

The fact that they pretty much stop supporting a device that isn't even a year old (and was considered their "premier" device when it launched). Isn't helping them one bit.

Honestly, I think that RIM felt that people who wanted OS6 would just go out and get the Torch, or get the Storm 3 when it comes out.... But they didn't realize that people are starting to get fed up with them.

So what if the Storm 2 doesn't have the power to run OS6.... They could have made a slightly watered-down version for the Storm 2. I mean come on.... nothing in OS6 is ground-breaking. Nothing looks like its gonna take insane amounts of power to run... They implemented stuff into the OS that should have been in, in the first place.

You can flame me all you want.... But you know its true.

    ALSO:
Just to add to the above post...

    Yes, I have a droid.
BUT I am not saying that I am done with blackberry. Just saying that they need to step their game up.
I still have my storm 2, and I still use it from time-to-time. So no... I am not leaving Crackberry.
