Since you're in Verizon you can just set the phone to 1XEV. The Glbal setting is only necessary if you are traveling out of the country. It won't affect your actual reception, but many claim it saves your battery since the phone won't search for GSM towers. I can't tell the difference, so I just leave mine in global now. I also haven't noticed any reduction in signal with the .230 or related hybrids, but then I haven't noticed the difference in any of the OS's. If there's a notable degradation n signal, maybe reload the OS?

You might want to try updating your towers with the 22899 option I always do that after an update

I also have noted that my reception is much better on .230. After the install I did a *228, 1 and reactivated the phone. Not sure if this would help you though.

I was running .148 and in my office in the house I was at 1 to 2 bars for phone, and pretty bad data coverage to the point I had to hold the phone in the air. With .230 I am at a constant 3 to 4 for phone and data is no longer a problem. Maybe just the area I am living but it has definitely improved for me.

.230 (and .238 currently) have had the best reception yet, for me.
