Can someone please tell me how to calculate drivetrain loss? I have an accurate weight (from a DOT scale) but I don't know how or what drivetrain loss is...
That would be a variable depending on manual or auto.
    Fwd or rwd.
And obviously year and condition of the tranny.
I would set it to 0% and eliminate the tranny variable.

No matter what I do, my mph is never right...My last run, I hit 75mph...DynoStorm only registered 48.8

After one legit run on the interstate, I'm thinking this app is accurate enough for me.

Here are my results for my 2003 BMW X5 3.0i:

    0-60mph: 7.59sec
    60': 2.36sec
    330': 6.60sec
    1/4mi: 15.28sec @ 103.5mph

The only thing I'm not able to do is get my 60' below 2 seconds.

sorry to say, but a 3.0 X5 is not going to trap anywhere close to 103.5 mph in the 1/4 mile! that's faster than the new twin turbo 335i coupes and sedans.....and those have alot more power than a 3.0 X5 and weigh alot less.

Does the OS have anything to do with how accurate this app is? Some OS's accelerometer are more sensitive than others.

I've downloaded almost every leak that has been released and there are some big differences in accelerometers sensitivity with some of them.

I came across a couple issues tonight. I made a run with the Storm in the passenger seat wedged between the seat bottom and the seart back. I wasn't able to make a full pass (shut down prior to the end of the 1.4 mile.

here's the wierd part, it showed that I ran 0-90mph in 8.77 seconds, but it shows my 1/8 mile time as 8.57 @103.8????? not possible!!!!

putting the storm in the seat seems to be much better than my previous spot. if you look at the HP graph, the peak HP is climbing in each gear (like it should as the load increases with each higher gear), unlike my previous runs.

    here's the break down:

    0-10: 0.88s
    0-20: 1.67s
    0-30: 2.36s
    0-40: 3.74s
    0-50: 4.46s
    0-60: 5.42s
    0-70: 6.60s
    0-80: 7.59s
    0-90: 8.77s
    0-100: 10.66s

    60' : 2.16s
    330' : 5.82s
    1/8 mile: 8.57 @ 103.8 mph ?????
    1000' : 10.94s
    1/4 mile : 12.92 @104.6 (too bad I let off, I was on a 110+ mph run!)

    Max Speed : 116.7 mph
    Max Accel: 0.63 G's
Peak Power: 433HP (wheel horse power)

no ****. didn't say the app was perfect.

@turbocam, i think i'll try putting the app in my seat and see how it works.

Mayze, the OS should not make a difference in the accuracy of this application. What you are referring to is how the OS reacts to the raw voltage data it gets from the accelerometer.

Basically the accelerometer puts out different voltage amounts based on its acceleration. This should not change with different operating systems. What does change is how the operating system evaluates the voltages and decides to react, ie change orientation. For example (these are only illustrative numbers and are fictional) the code for .75 may say when the voltage read from the y axis is between 3 microvolts and 12 microvolts be in landscape view otherwise be in portrait. Then in .141 they may have changed it to be between 4 and 8 microvolts.

There are more than likely other changes that possibly improve the sampling rate when looking for rotation so that the phone senses the change earlier and other changes that allow it to process the data more quickly, but the raw data from the accelerometer should not change from operating system to operating system.

This app should be accessing the raw data from the accelerometer and then processing it to calculate the acceleration.

Ahhh.... that makes sense. Thanks for the info.

Wish friday would get here so I can buy it.

Just a heads up for a good mount for this...

Walmart sells an IPOD mount for $24.88. The Storm clicks in securely to one of the bases (I think you get 3 with this kit IIRC)

I've been using it for months when Im driving and using the GPS or Google Maps, works great for DynoStorm too since you can change the orientation or angle however you want.

The only place I can even think of trying this, is out in Ashburn on Loudoun County Parkway.

I believe they're a few other deserted, straight roads out in Ashburn too.

Ide say to re calibrate the software in ur car. Also when ppl say they ran better on the track there's a reason. Tracks are stickier for better traction and of course there's no heat soaking cuz ppl usually leave their car off until they are at the start line.
