    I would like to start a new thread for DynoStorm results since the other one is 30+ pages of nothing until you get any results.

    Conclusion: This was my first test on a public road. I was spinning through all of 1st, and 2nd. 1/4 mile time and speed seem pretty close considering it was a run on a pretty crappy road. 0-60 seems pretty off to me, but who knows. And obviously the 640 HP is very high. Im prob around 350 or so. I have everything calibrated, and a very close estimate of the weight of the vehicle listed. I will try it again tomorrow and see how close the results are.

    seemed pretty decent for my 1st shot at it, obviously u need to keep the phone as still as possible. i had it on the armrest and had my hand holding the bottom of it.

    I just made a couple runs:

    I need a better mount, but these runs were consistant with eachother. much slower than my actual 1/4 mile times though

    actual 1/4 miles times have been 13.2 @112 mph. (poor traction.)

    my dynostorm runs were both 14.0 @ 103.x and then 104.0.

    the first run told me I was making just over 300 rwhp. the second run said 349 rwhp. my actual rwhp is 410. also on the second run, I had a spike of 349 rwhp during second gear......the rest of the graph showed appox 300 rwhp.
    I was using a correction factor of ZERO so that it would show wheel horsepower.

    the car is a twin turbo G35 Sedan with 9psi of boost.

    I'm gonna buy some sort of good mount before I pass judgement on this device.

    What type of car do you have? Loss is always somewhere between 10%-20% depending on the car. Most Cars (automatic trans) it would be safe to go with 15% Trucks i would say go with 20%.. Manual Trans go with 5% less on both.

    It's a 2007 F-550 Wrecker with a 6.0L V8. Weight is 9760lbs.

    I should be pushing plenty of HP and Torque with this thing...lol

    This was my best run with no brake torquing, stability control and traction control both on and with auto in sport mode (did not shift steptronic manually).

    Strangely enough, subsequent runs with all driver aids off yielded lower performance figures across the board (0-60 7.29, 236 Peak HP).

    Jury's still out on this app, despite that youtube video showing its accuracy

    I'm sure your launches and 60's on a track would be better (EDIT, just saw your 60 is 2.xx...). Either way, we know these things are 100%, just for baseline tuning without having to hit the dyno.

    Indeed, my car is AWD so losses will be closer to 20-25.

    Well i took the car last night and did 2 runs (with 0% drivetrain loss), first one was pretty crappy so i won't even post it, 2nd was not so crappy but still needs improvement...
    I guess once i get the hang of it and find a better mounting location, the numbers should start to look more realistic. Here is a run from a guy with the same car as mine on an actual drag strip, he has a couple of mods, ECIS Intake, ebay headers, and a ssk shifter?

    His first run:
    60' 2.224
    330 6.170
    1/8 9.371
    MPH 76.91
    1000 12.112
    1/4 14.396
    MPH 99.88


    His 2nd run:
    60' 1.970
    330 5.797
    1/8 8.968
    MPH 77.50

    If you enter 0 it gives you wheel horsepower. Thats the only number that really counts anyhow. Anything that is lost in the drivetrain is just that.... LOST

    I'm getting angry with this app...many times it is giving me false readings, saying my mph is WAAAAAAAY more than it should be...like if I hit 60, it will jump to 100mph...my truck is governed at 85...

    What am I doing wrong?

    It sounds like it needs a solid moun to work properly. I have a universal vent mount I use for my ipod and storm. I wonder if it will hold it steady enough.

    When I've used this, I put it on my passenger seat, pushed all the way back up to the back rest. My seats are leather so the storm didn't move. I find this, for my car anyway, a useful "mount".

    On topic, for my 07 supercharged Grand Prix, stock of course, best I got so far was a 15.43 @ 90.1 w/2.56 60', 7.73 to 60 mph. On one of my aborted runs (saw headlights in the distance, didn't want to take the chance it might have been police) I was 6.14 to 60mph but had to stop it there. I like it so far. Last year at the track, my car ran 14.8 and 14.9 @ 94 mph, so this will be good for me to measure how the mods I will end up doing, match up.

    anyone have anyidea what is the most solid mount? I think I should get a mount made specifically for the storm and with sturdy mounting hardware.

    for example, when I accelerate, there is enough acceleration Gs that my nav screen tilts back (stock pop-up nav). I am thinking that most of the mounts on the market are going to be pretty flimsy. If the stock nav screen is getting thrust backward under full acceleration, what is a cheap $19 chinese-made cell phone going to do?

    Turbo Cam....you have a g35, so i am guessing you have leather interior.

    I have one of those rubberized cases on my storm, and so far it will not move if i have it on the passenger seat pushedd all the way back in my Challenger, the rubber sticks pretty hard too the leather.

    check out the pro-clip mounts...pricey, but solid...I've yet to DL/Buy this app to try it out with, but I'd imagine it'll do the job.

    I've got solid mounts in my car though, so wondering if the vibes might wreak havoc with the app...?

    The horsepower advertised in commercials, ads, magazines, etc for a specific car is the horsepower the engine is capable of producing.

    Sorry if this explanation questions your intelligence but if you are unaware of the relationship between HP, torque, and RPM then understanding how they're all related will help make better sense of this (assuming you're new to all of this).

    The literally definition of HP is a horse lifting 150 pounds a height of 220 feet in 1 minute...why someone ever thought to make up that measurement so long ago is beyond me, but hey its there. The thing to note here is that horsepower is a measurement of energy that is contingent on time.

    Torque is how much pressure is applied when you turn something. You can apply torque without ever really turning something (i.e., trying to turn a locked doorknob, even though the doorknob isn't moving, you're still applying force to it, hence torque).

    When an engine powers the wheels, the engine rotates (keyword there) a crankshaft which in turn spins gears, driveshaft, and inevitably the wheels.

    Since HP by itself is a measurement applied in a linear fashion, it is actually impossible to just come up with a HP estimate for an engine...because it rotates and you need a unit of time.

    So what engineers did, was they took the concept of HP and applied it tangentially...thats why we use torque and we also need a unit to measure time, hence revolutions per minute. After doing a mathematical proof, you get the formula HP = (torque * RPM)/5252. I'd type out the proof but I already feel quite nerdy already.

    So whats all this have to do with drivetrain loss? As stated earlier, the HP figure you hear in ads, TV, etc is the amount of HP and torque being applied to the flywheel of the engine. Some of that force and energy is lost because you have to turn gears in your transmission, driveshaft, etc etc so once that force and energy reaches the wheels, some of it will be gone due to the fact that it was working to rotate all the components that eventually are linked to your wheels. Your drivetrain loss is dependent on several things even how much your driveshaft weighs and how many wheels the engine is driving. The average drivetrain loss is around 15%-20%.

    If your car is stock and you want to mod it in the future, you can just set your drivetrain loss to 0% and it'll tell you how much HP you're running at the wheels, from there you can calculate your drivetrain loss for future use.

    Whew, hope that helped.

    I haven't even found a place where I can actually run the damn app...stupid suburbs of DC, lol.
