I was not lucky enough to get a Storm yesterday since they were sold out everywhere, but now I feel somewhat fine that I didn't buy one. Don't get me wrong, I'm still going to get one either way, but now I've got a few questions...

Are the problems with the phone (sluggish accelerometer, animations, camera, etc) going to be fixed via a software update? I mean, these are not hardware problems right, so it is something that can be fixed with new software? Also, as this would be my first phone from RIM, how are they in terms of keeping their phones updated and actually IMPROVING them if some stuff runs slow? I want to be sure that if I buy this phone the problems it has right now will definitely be fixed.

Other than that, I am just wondering if anyone knows when the fix is supposed to come. Is it this year or next year? Next week?

Oh, and if I get the phone around Christmas or middle of December, do you think the software that will come on the phone will be better (or an improvement) over what people got now (and that it will fix some of the issues)?

    Thanks!

    NO.

Even though RIM continually puts out updated OS's for all other Blackberries, this, being their most hyped and looked-forward to phone in the history of their company, they have decided that what you got is all you'll get.

    God's honest truth.

p.s. don't do any more research on the Storm, they've been discontinued.

The software problems were blown way out of proportion in my opinion. Iove this phone! And it will only get better with updates

dare i mention the problems iphone had with firmware 2.0? a software update (2.1) made those problems go bye bye quickly.
your feedback is good though, i'm sure some developers read here and other sites to get feedback on problems everyone is having so they can work in fixes.

So, can anyone give me a straightforward answer for the updates? Is it likely they'll release something in the next week(s) that will improve the stability and functionality of the phone?

they knew there were problems, hense why they all got updated litterally the day before they were shipped out.

there will be an update available (from what i've read) in the next few weeks.
but don't quote me on this.
it should improve a lot of issues.

No, RIM will not fix the phone. They only update phones once and thats it. LEARN TO SEARCH!

No one outside of RIM and VZW knows for sure when there will be an update or what it will fix. If you dont want to buy an unstable phone, just wait.

so funny! haha but the only complaint i have with software is after playing with it for a while my scrolling starts to tweak out. when i try to scroll up it just keeps resetting to the middle everytime i press so i can't go to the top or bottom... batt pull solves the problem but this happens every fifteen minutes!

I'm guessing you work for RIM? or Verizon? There wouldn't have happened to be a release date on that email, would there?

I spoke with a Verizon Tech Support rep today about a problem with the phone resetting itself. As she looked in her computer she told me there was a scheduled software update from RIM the first week in December. I hope this is right as I am having quite a few problems with my phone!

You can still update, you might (although probably not) just have to reactivate your BES authorization.

hmmm, maybe thats why it says you will need to contact your BES admin for updates.

but osmeone was saying that there was an update rolled out release day? do our phones have such update? or was there no update yet at all? do we know what the current latest version is?
