Hi there!

I live in Portugal (no BS2 in the near future, as far as I know) and want to buy the Storm 2.
I checked a few european countries where the phone's already being sold and, as far as I can tell, they're only sold by Vodafone in monthly plans.

So...what's my best option in order to buy it and use it here in Portugal?

Buy an unlocked Storm2 9520 off fleabay.
What carrier are you on?
You will need GSM/HSPA 2100Mhz in Europe.

You would want the 9520. You can easily unlock it. As fare as no plan? As fare as I know it's not possible as you need BIS which RIM provides.

However. You could get a plan and go month to month if you buy the phone out right.

You mean buy the phone in the UK (for instance), unlock it, use it here in Portugal and pay the monthly fees as I go? That would be too expensive in the end, cause I'd be paying for the phone + 600 min talktime and unlimited texts (35 pounds/month for 2 years), but I would't be able to use the latter...

I guess my best chance is to buy one on ebay, which I'd really rather not, as it involves big sums of money and no guaranties at all...

You're going to want to get a 9520 off ebay and get it unlocked and you'll be good to go for whatever carrier you're on.

Couldn't she get a 9550 and unlock it? Its a World Phone, so it should work perfectly on her GSM network. They might be a little more readily available than the 9520s anyway.

I would assume a 9550 or 9520 would work because the only difference is that the 9520 is GSM only. It should work. I would recommend the 9520 though because its a Vodafone phone and its guaranteed to work on the Vodafone network.

9520s can be bought without subscription in Holland, but it'll cost you €580,-

Expansys sell the 9520 but will be locked to Vodafone and same with Clove technology as well...but getting them unlocked is not a big problem...
