peekawho on storm vs aerise on storm
- well looks like I have chosen to use peekawho and there is 1 simple reason..
I actually prefer aerise's buttons
but on peekawho it gives you filters to make it so the alerts don't show when in applications..
Without that function the alert shows on the phone screen..
Phones with a keyboard wont have a issue with that..
On the storm however you can be dialing a number and just click on of the buttons that pop up when showing you a alert..
which can be frustrating..
Usually when punching in a number you do it so fast that you don't even think about it and clicking away a the popup message maybe even deleting it..
I did however send a pm to aerise to add the feature into the software..
They responded that they are trying to make the software as uncomplicated as possible and with that reponse it made me believe that this must be a complicated process for end users to understand?
filter add > phone
now it wont appear when your in the phone app..
is that complicated for you?
anyway no biggy peekawho is a nice app in its own right and will do the job for me..
Just wanted to give my opinion on it.12-23-08 11:30 PMLike 0 - its just my concern that if a person thinks a small filter button is complicated then maybe they shouldn't have a smart phone at all
I mean a blackberry isn't the most friendly device for beginners off the get go to begin with..
There getting better with it but its not like picking up a dumbphone for the first time12-23-08 11:38 PMLike 0 -
I have both: bought Peekawho and then got Aerize during their free offer tonight. I've only used Peekawho for about a week and Aerize for just a few hours.
I really like the way Aerize presents the information and the buttons on the pop-up. The box itself doesn't seem to resize in Peekawho, so when you set i for larger font you get less info (haven't done any "scientific" study on that, may be just my impression). Peekawho seems to pop-up for 10% of SMS. Aerize, as another poster says, does not have the contact or app filtering that Peekawho uses, so you get pop-ups for all messages in every app.
So, I haven't decided which is better. I really like the readability of the Aerize pop-ups, but hate that it doesn't have filtering.
Also, the ability to chnge LED alert colors in Peekawho sounded pretty cool, but they don't seem to work. Even with my sound profile to not give an LED alert, and Peekawhoo set to green, I still get a flashing red LED.12-23-08 11:41 PMLike 0 - I'm working on a version of my own. I personally don't like either of them. I'm looking for something more lightweight. Plus on aerise when you click on reply it takes you to the email screen rather then the text scree.12-23-08 11:56 PMLike 0
- It seems to be working on my email, I didn't setup anything special, but I'll poke through my options to see if there is anything there and let you guys know if I see anything.12-24-08 12:08 AMLike 0
- The only thing I am seeing in the options is under Aeriz Alerts (it showed up in my downloaded folder I moved it elsewhere), if you go into the program, there is an option that says
Enable For:
Mine has email and sms selected, if I turned it down to SMS, I only got them for text messages.
Might be worth a look.12-24-08 12:12 AMLike 0 - Aerize is working on the storm issues. The two issues I have still are popups for visual voicemail and popups when sending mms with delivery confirmation. They are aware and working on it. I played with the next beta and it's getting there.
PAW works on the storm, but you're correct with saying the buttons are too small. I did send an email to support asking if they will have a storm friendly version and they replied mid Jan.
Personally, I like the visuals of Aerize and the options to choose message lengths, but they have to work out the kinks.12-24-08 12:20 AMLike 0 - I jump on the free offer also and it just did not work for my email at all no matter what options I used and I even did battery pulls in between just to see if that would help. Disabled compatibility mode like they said.
I was not really impressed with how it worked. I was impressed with how they made it visually appealing though.
+9 for visual content
-9 for it not working correctly for the storm yet
Yes I know the storm is new and the OS is just as new, but don't advertise it as storm compatible just cause you can load it.
I am sure they will get the bugs worked out and the gremlins beat down. But until then I will hold off on using. Also I would like to see filters make it way into this product also. I don't need it popping up on my phone screen. Also like the OP said. This is a smartphone, if they user cant figure out a filter then maybe a little RTFM and alone time with the phone is needed.12-24-08 10:34 AMLike 0 - I jump on the free offer also and it just did not work for my email at all no matter what options I used and I even did battery pulls in between just to see if that would help. For now it dramatically slows the Storm down.
That truly is the problem. The 3rd Party Apps are dumbing down the device.12-24-08 12:46 PMLike 0 -
Back on topic... I used Aerize 1.2.1 for all of a day until I got sick of it sending me to my messages folder when I want to open it. Otherwise, I don't think I noticed a slow down on .75.02-17-09 04:59 PMLike 0 - That was my main issue with BOTH of them. I like how there is a POP UP for SMS messages, but whats the point if its going to take me to my emails (I don't combine EVERYTHING).02-17-09 05:22 PMLike 0
