So I did a java wipe before doing this. Now my storm just says reload software and DM will not recognize it. I tried uninstalling update, still nothing, getting worried, what else can i do?

I had read a post on hofo about doing a wipe and how much that helped out and selectively restoring, i thought this would be a good time to do that since i was backing up and restoring anyways, i dont know wtf to do now

Do a search for "How Do I restore a nuked Berry" it may be "dead berry". You should find out how to restore it. Don't worry.

If you back up your berry before the update then it should reload all your stuff and settings automatically.

Don't worry and don't disconnect. It will be fine. It takes a while for it to complete.

Just got ready to install and this screen came up. There's nothing for me to click on in the drop down box and I can't click the "Detect communication port" option either. Backed out and retried... no luck. Now what?

Could we please NOT fill up the thread with "Downloading now, thanks Don" messages? Gratitude is awesome but it's very cluttering too.

Is your phone plugged in? lol I had to ask. Try restarting your computer. If that doesn't work then try reinstalling.
