My friend is using the Storm 9530, and has accidently deleted the 'Messages' icon from her Blackberry. She can still get to messages as the Mail application is always running, but is there a way to get the icon back without reinstalling the OS?
Thoughts?

Sure it's deleted and not accidently hidden? It did that with me the other day....
bring all icons up and hit the menu and click show all if that's checked..

That was the first thing I checked... It looks like it has been deleted.
I have tried separating the SMS from Email. This gives the SMS/MMS box, but still doesn't bring back the Messages box.
I'm stumped...

Try re registering the host routing table and re send service books and see if that fixes it.

Thanks for the advice, but neither option did the trick... Any other thoughts?

I'm pretty sure it's not hidden... What exactly would I be looking for in DM?
