A Pearl Flip commercial features a man who "buttock dials" his blackberry because it is in his back pocket. Is it alright to store the storm in my back pocket when I sit in standard padded chairs? Is it OK when I sit on hard chairs? Is it designed to be sat on or not? Also, if you know of any sites that routinely test gadget durability by actually breaking them, let me know.
You do realize the guy in that commercial has no phone in his actual pocket!

A couple other reasons not to do it:

    1. Embarassment when you sit down and inadvertantly turn on your fart app.

    2. Vibrate just feels better in the front pocket.

Yes, it is an excellent idea to place ones phone in a back pocket and sit down!

Additionally, I found that an excellent way to clean the Storm is to fill a container with 500ml of Clorox/Domestos and fully submerge it for at least one hour!

Edit: I forgot to mention - don't get any bleach on your hands!! It will hurt!

Yeah so I have the storm in my back pocket about 90% of the time when I'm out. I don't see why everyone is making such a big deal. I have never had the slightest of problems with this. Just make sure to not have anything else in your pocket, and try not to fall on your *** lol

But, go ahead bro, like the Fonz says "Sit on it"... Besides, I have stock in Verizon. Help a brotha out!

No you can not sit on your storm while eating corn. You must not, can not sit on your storm while watching porn. Your storm will not like the feel of your rear while you are drinking beer. Your storm will not like being sat on in a box, it will not like feeling your a** when you are putting on your socks. So learn this lesson and learn it well, your storm will never like being squished by your big tail!

Umm. I don't think there's like a Storm torture test like they have at the chairs at Ikea for you to watch. Dependin on someone's weight, if they have a boney *** that might make the bone apply direct pressure to the screen, the tightness of their pants, the softness of the object they are sitting on, etc... I'd say just it's good common sense to not sit on your phone. Consider it an egg and you not a chicken.
if you have a boney *** you might even break that instead of your storm if it was designed to sit on it. I would definately give it a couple of days of trying. I guess most big asses would absorb the whole phone so then it would most likely be no problem. Also depending on the roundness of your *** it could be that it is on a flatter, less curved part which should be no problem. If it isn't then it will break for sure. I'll make some calculations for you.
    1+1=2
    1+1=11
    Hmmm..... see... it fits!!!
Just make sure you've got a very big *** and pants to match and you should be fine!

You can keep it in your back pocket but it helps to sandwich it inside your wallet. This provides for extra cushioning and protects the screen.

Get an iphone. They've been pressure tested and depth tested to 30 meters. Bring oxygen! While you can sit on it on the ocean floor, the scuba app is only in beta.

This thread I spent the most time reading everyones replies and it was worth it. Even the picture that everyone posted a dozen times I kept laughing at. I applaud the guys how had this serious question, but come on. My wife use to stick her her phone (chocolate) in her back pocket and we replaced it 3 times in 4 months. She is even smart enought not to put the storm in her pocket and she only ways 110lb. But as if we haven't seen it enough, this explains my feelings about this guys post...

You can put it in your back pocket while in the water. The buoyancy will make you lighter and therefore you will not crush the Storm when you sit on it.

Please don't sit on a $500 cell phone. It is a glass screen and will break eventually. It's built to be in a holster or a desktop charger. It will call if you hit the call button constantly unless you have the screenlock on. Again, please don't sit on a $500 cell phone. You will break it eventually

aside from the already mentioned ideas of why would you sit on a expensive phone or something that was built for sitting on.

To answer your question its not about a straight failure point on your phone. Any phone that is a candy bar phone (Iphone, Storm, BB, Omniva, Palm) all have a form factor to them (the candy bar style). The problem with this form is that while its great for things like touchscreen and keeping a phone long but thin its horrible for stress.

If you sit on your phone, even if you don't break it you will be apply more stress to the frame of the phone than was ever meant. this means it will bend your phone, crack it, warp it or even cause it to snap. Plus even if you dont break the screen you can crack things or warp things on the inside bad enough that they will no longer function by adding stress in the wrong way to the structure of the phone.

Hope that helps, over all bad idea don't try even with padding. Oh and to whoever said to sandwich it in your wallet, don't. It makes the pressure even greater on your phone because now it has less space to move to try to even out the stress on the phone just don't sit on it, its not worth it.

If you consistently sit on your Storm while it's placed in your back pocket, it will eventually crack or put a wear n tear on the "clicking" hardware under the screen. If you keep on doing that, eventually one day your Storm will no longer click.

    Just my 2 cent.
