I was trying to figure out how to quote another thread in this one but I don't see how so I will paste what was said. The poster mentioned that the following was posted in a Voda UK forum by a moderator. As with all the rumors, it should be taken with a grain of salt, but as I said it was enough to push me to try .99.
Hi XXXX,
I should probably give everyone fair warning that RIM like to keep any details around their firmware changes closely to their chest, so there is very little that I am really allowed to comment on - although I would LOVE to answer directly, most of my info is only in "reliable rumour" format at the moment, so it would be neither professional nor appropriate to make any false promises.
I can therefore only tell you what my current feelings are, and you'll have to take from that what you will wink.gif
I am confident that the signal issues will be resolved in the next firmware release, as well as most of the other large issues that people have been experiencing. This is probably why it's taking longer than usual.
The firmware is still a way off, and all leaked versions so far are building up to that. I would expect the new milestone to be hit before March, but we will then need to approve, test and sign off on the new release, which always adds a neccessary chunk of time onto the end of the release date. How long that takes is a bit like asking for the length of a peice of string, but it does at least give a rough idea for the 1st Quarter of 2009, barring any major setbacks.
Even if the above turns out not to be the case after release, then alternative handsets and contract terminations are not going to be on the cards, as this issue WILL be fixed one way or another. Not fixing it is not an option for us at all.
