just wondering if anyone is getting this alert? As of right now.. .99 is useless to me... i can't get to my sms/mms after a fresh reboot? Will try another battery pull (3rd today) to fix this issue. I'll try another install of .99 see what happens.

There is a corruption in the address book. There is an easy solution to this problem.

    1) Do a backup of your device.
    2) Open Backup and Restore and click Advanced.
    3) Select the Address Book database and click Clear.
    4) Do a hard reset of the device.
    5) Sync the device with Microsoft Outlook.

I was running .90... then used the loader to update to .99...

update to .99 went ok.. went to sleep then a few hours after i woke up.. i got the null pointer exception when clicking on sms... clicking on contacts worked fine. then i clicked on sms and it worked fine till an hour ago...

now with reboots and reloads... nothing.. still same.

So i'm going to reload and try the above task..

The only problem is i would like to try and reload from the upgrade backup files.. but i don't know where they are!

no go with the contacts.. so i just deleted all my sms/mms messages(as i was getting the error from clicking on sms/mms).. from backup/restore/advance.. and cleared them directly off the device for now.. that seems to have done the trick. we'll see.

no go... I still get a null pointer exception when clicking on sms/mms.
Even with no messages in it..

    WTF!!

thought i got it fixed.. by deleting sms's and reloading contacts.. no go..

While i was sending a txt msg another one came in and BOOM.. null pointer exception and the txt i received was from the same persons that i was currently reading.

can someone please open/read a txt message from a cell.. then while looking at it.. get another from that same cell phone?

If it helps anyone, I can repeat this error consistently and also tell you how to fix it (assuming you have the same problem I do). It happened to me immediately after I upgraded to .99.

The error for me consistently occurs when you receive a text from "yourself" or get an auto-text from Verizon or something else that mimics your number...the result is that the "From" field for the message is supposed to show your number but it shows as null and blows everything to h3ll and back.

Here is how to recreate the problem on a Verizon phone:
    1. Open the phone app
    2. Dial #646 (Verizon minutes)
    3. Verizon will automatically send you a text.
    4. Close the phone app
    5. Try to open SMS to view, error should occur.

I can also make this happen by sending myself a text.

    Work-around for the problem:
    1. Open "Messages" (not SMS)
    2. Click "Compose"
    3. Choose "SMS Text"
    4. Type something in the fields
    5. Click Blackberry button
    6. Choose "Save Draft"
    7. After the save, the app will return you to the SMS App auotmatically. You should see the troubled messages on the screen. At this point you may or may not see your other text messages and you may also not see your menu buttong at the bottom...don't worry.
    8. Touch (NOT click) the troubled message. It probably won't highlight, so make sure you get it touched.
    9. If you can see your menu buttons at the bottom, select "Delete". If you cannot...touch the screen in the dead center at the bottom and it should show up. If it doesn't show up, click it anyway and you should be asked to delete.
    10. Repeat this for all of the "null" messages.
    11. When the last one is gone, all of your messages will magically show up and your SMS button will work again.

    Enjoy.

Note: I haven't tried the address book reload yet...I'm going to do that now and I'll post up the results.
