I have nothing installed, at least I don't think. Yet when I try and upgrade my OS it says I don't have enough memory and need to get 20 MB free. Any help?

This has to do with your Memory on your phone. Do a battery pull, it should free up enough memory for you to do the OTA upgrade.

Reading through any of those threads would also have given you this answer, its generally the first thing to try.

Battery pulls are not doing it for me.

    Could someone please help.

I've tried memory clean, I cleared the log, I'm running the stock theme. I'm running the stock OS and have never upgraded before.

    I don't have a Windows machine, so I can't do a wipe, or a DM install.

What could I delete to increase the free memory?

When I'm on the home screen and do (Menu > Switch Application) Messages, Phone, Browser, BB Messenger and Application Center (and now "Download-Paused") are always there no matter how I try to close them.
    Is that my problem?

try uninstalling some of your 3rd party apps? how much application memory do you have free after you do a fresh reboot?

So, are you saying that deleting apps that aren't running will increase this number?

    Like Slacker, LightsOut etc ??

I have right around 19 usually after a battery restart.

Yes. Sadly, all installed applications use application memory, none are stored in the device memory. I'd say look at what you have installed and remove some of the larger ones that you can re-download until the OTA says you have enough. I imagine its some magic number like 20, 25 or 30MB that it wants free, but I couldn't tell you as I haven't done an OTA update personally.

    Thanks Snork !!

    I'm finally downloading.

This has to get posted in the nOOb guide somewhere. Talk about not intuitive.

This seems like a great App. for someone to write that would shuffle apps in and out of Device Memory to Application Memory.

What is the other 850MB for ???
