No Adobe Flash for RIM
- "Flash 10, which will support all desktop Flash sites and applications, will be available for Windows Mobile, Symbian Series 60, Android and Palm's new WebOS, Muraka said. But the popular RIM BlackBerry and Apple iPhone platforms stayed off the list, though Adobe chief executive Shantanu Narayen said two weeks ago that Adobe was "collaborating" with Apple. "
Palm Pre to Receive Flash Support in 2009 - News and Analysis by PC Magazine02-17-09 10:21 AMLike 0 - wowwwww that sucks....o well.....but doesnt bolt and opera and all those third party browsers support it anyway?02-17-09 10:24 AMLike 0

- I'm sure they are but their OS is proprietary and was made to be secure not to mention the fundamental programming differences with java. This means many changes would need to be made to flash and / or the OS.
The other issue is adobe. Flash is their bread and butter in terms of licensing. I don't see them putting a ton of effort in modding flash unless RIM pays a good price.02-17-09 11:14 AMLike 0 -
Flash is nothing compared to things like Photoshop and Acrobat for Adobe. Adobe got Flash as part of the deal when they bought Macromedia a few years back.02-17-09 11:57 AMLike 0 - They'll have to get it eventually, I think they'll change their mind when every other major competitor has it on their phones. Unfortunately we have to wait until then.....

Ideally, Flash would start disappearing from the rest of the web, and not just to be replaced by Silverlight or JavaFX.02-17-09 12:22 PMLike 0
- Would be nice to have for Hulu.com and stuff. But I think Flash itself is a very sluggish program / code.02-17-09 12:22 PMLike 0
- RIM's major contract is with Verizon
Verizon tries to do what ever they can to save bandwidth
It wouldn't surprise me if Verizon told RIM no flash02-17-09 12:42 PMLike 0 -
Nfl.com videos would be great to have but they require flash

Back on topic... Nowhere does this announcement say that Flash is NEVER coming to the BB platform. It's just absent from this announcement. I don't know if it is or isn't coming, but this announcement isn't proof one way or the other.02-17-09 01:05 PMLike 0 - True on an individual basis, but think about the sheer number of machines that run Flash compared to those that run Photoshop...

IE. MLB.com streams in Flash. So you could watch games in real time while out shopping with the wife. HULU streams in flash, so you can catch up on the episode of 24 you missed last night while commuting on the train. NPR streams in Flash. So you can listen to the All Things Considered in the Hudson Valley, where its tough to find a Public Radio Station. Streaming podcasts.....02-17-09 01:08 PMLike 0
- maybe its a little bit crazy but would be cool if someone could port gnash to java then we dont need adobe flash^^
it would be so much cooler if the blackberry os wouldnt been coded in java and could handle C or C++ compiled programms like the i phone(dont like the iphone) then all the cool open source stuff like gnash could be portet.02-17-09 01:23 PMLike 0 - I don't see this being a huge deal either unless you're OME6A and gotta have your porn on the go lol.02-17-09 01:40 PMLike 0
- Looks like I am handing this device i Early for a Tegra enabled device with Andorid. People call the apple a dumbphone but this is just as dumb but in other areas.
.Only one sound channel (Even my Gameboy had 2 channels) (Hinders the ability of many applications)
.No WiFi (Not that this mattered but its pretty standered)
.No Flash or Flash Lite (iphone is going to get it leaving BB's the odd ones out)
.Still using Java (Very outdated, useless code that even Flash Actionscript 3 can outdo.)
Now I don't want to rant on but the storm is slowly going downfast as I view Engadget over all these new and wonderful phones.
Well I always have my N95 8GB to go back to which has Flash Lite, NES/GBA emulator and running Quake 2. Things the Storm will never achieve due to the fact it uses javaLast edited by MaxL; 02-17-09 at 02:35 PM.

Yea, those are all valid points, but lets say the next Blackberry to be offered on Verizon includes all those features people will just out right buy it if they want it that bad.02-17-09 02:47 PMLike 0
