OK here we go.. waited for the new cdma Bold to come, it probably will very soon, but i'm not sure if i'd still like it more than the storm2 anyways.

so my question is, what do you think i should do as far as getting started with my new toy?

    1. Should i update to a new OS right from the start? which one?
    2. Cases: Otterbox Defender/Commuter or the Body Glove are what I'm looking at.
    3. Screen Shield? As you can tell from my case selections, i want to make sure it stays protected, i am not always in a friendly environment for a touch screen, but i want to make it work. which screen shield has worked best for you?

    BIG QUESTION:
    4. what are your favorite apps? I dont want to be spending a lot of money, but if there are some must haves that people really like and i think id use lets hear them.

    5. do i need to buy a larger memory card?

    6. how concerned should i be about filling up my memory fast?

i have already read through the tips and tricks thread.. just wanted a few other questions maybe answered, if you want to get mad at me for not searching for these answers already, dont worry i have. I'm just curious still.. dont hate me for being a innocent newb

    1. I would recommend .517. Faster browser, homescreen icons update, letter popups on keyboard.

    2. Otterbox Commuter all the way

    3. I have never had a screen protector on my 9550 in the 5 months I've had it. No scratches.

    4. Podtrapper, poynt, opera mini, crunchsms, and find a good free theme.

    5. 16 gigs on the card is plenty for me.

    6. No worries at all about memory. Maybe do a battery pull a couple of times a week for good measure.

    Enjoy your wonderful new toy/tool!

I was in the same boat as you - waiting for the Essex. I'm glad I got the S2 instead. Here is what I got - hope it helps you decide:

Pandora - awesome streaming radio app.
Google Maps - free GPS directions.
    BracketTron Vent Mount
Otterbox Commuter - comes with 1 screen protector
Mugen 1650 Extended battery (fits with OEM door)
The Weather Channel app (or any weather app)
Empower Screen Saver app - cool for when you have the S2 plugged in.

The 16 gig card is fine for me - got Movies and Mp3's loaded taking up about half. I don't think the 32 gig cards are quite ready yet for the mainstream.

All the apps I mentioned are totally free.

That should get you started - if you get nothing else - get the Otterbox. It's worth it's weight in gold.

Have fun with it - I sure am.

    1. upgrade right away
    2. case-mate hybrid. ROCKS. and AWESOME protection
    3. ebay I got 6 of them for 2USD. Love them. They're cheap and they do a GREAT job.
    4. Fav. apps really depend on you. I like meterberry and some games
    5. You'll need a larger memory card if you have a lot of music / videos.
    6. Filling up memory cards is no biggie. I doubt you'll install enough apps to fill up the ROM. but ALL BB OSs are unreliable if they fall under 12 megs. I install whatever I want and I'm still over 110 megs with about 15 apps installed (or more :s... probably more).

    Enjoy!

Well got it and love it. Decided on the otterbox defendEr. ... Its pretty big and makes the unit a little heavy but I work on our family farm occationally and my pearl got filled with gay and dust so I don't want to take that chance with this one! Thank you for all your input, I have a few kinks to iron out but so far I'm loving it!
