I agree. Even with the lag, .76 is by far the most stable build to date.

I believe all updated OS work different on every phone...in my opinion.....I tried .86 and didn't like it then I went back to .85 it works very well for now
Aside from a one off 523 error that has yet to repeat, .86 has been running flawlessly for me. I guess right after installing it, I did have a stuck red LED flashing, but a reboot cleared that up just fine.
So, let's try to refrain from placing one's self at the center of the universe shall we? Just because it didn't work well for YOU, does NOT mean the build itself is crap. There's a whole thread devoted to people who have experienced absolutely NO problems with .86, and by and large most people's biggest complaint about it is a wonky LED. Which is annoying, but hardly critical I think you'd have to agree, when you consider all the things that could go wrong.
Since your post was largely devoid of the annoying whining that seems to plague so many others, I'll leave it at just asking you to remember that your experiences do not make up the sum total of everyone else's experience with the leaked build.
And I know sociologists have a term for this, but I'll be buggered if I can remember it. Can anyone help me out here... The term for people's tendency to extrapolate the experience of others based on their own experiences. Like, because I might find advanced calculus extremely easy (I don't, but it's an example) I tend to assume everyone else does. You can PM me if you know the answer, no point cluttering this thread any more.
I totally agree with you...I've wasted more time behind updating this junk than its been useful for the past month. I'm going back to .76 right now and staying there until some seriously fixes are made. What a disaster.

No real issues with .86 here. One minor problem with red led staying on after text message, battery pull and no more problems (only pull in 48 hrs.). OS.86 up for 48 hrs now with fairly heavy use, battery life better (100%> 55% in 48hrs), memory leak less (45mb > 36mb in 48 hours), volume louder/clearer, accelerometer faster, overall device performance better, camera improved. No random reboots, no freeze ups. IMO .86 not "crap", but functioning well.
Please don't make a post dedicated to flaming an OS build that you had trouble with. As we're learning more every day, different phones have different reactions and results to each OS. Some have a blinking LED light, some do not at all. Some have constant freezes, some have never had any. There are too many different variations of things that can happen. Most I've heard are good from .86, some unfortunately are bad.
I've had .86 since a couple hours after it's release and it's been great for me, save for 2 unfortunate freezes (which I got more of in .85). I know many others who share the same story I do. Theres no problem with being upset and listing complaints about your situation, just don't turn people off to a build that quite frankly has the ability of being better than the previous leaked builds.

I downloaded .86 within 30 minutes of it hitting the site. Aside from the led flipping out (turned off in bluetooth until ot gets fixed) and a 523 error as I was walking into a Verizon store, I've had almost no proems with it.

Zero problems with .86 here as well.
Overall .86 was a lot faster for me than .75. It was working flawlessly, but now my Storm has started freezing repeatedly and resetting itself at random times, usually when I am sleeping. Is anyone else having frequent resetting issues on .86?
I have TalkLock, Viigo, VyMail, Gmail. I also have facebook, the instant messaging apps, and youtube, but I rarely or never use them.
Also, if battery is low on the Storm, is it supposed to shut off its radio? Is it then supposed to automatically reconnect to the mobile network when it's back on the charger?...cause it doesn't do that
.75 is far more stable without a doubt for me.

I have seen this logic posted before, but just cannot understand how it could be possible. The hardware should be identical from phone to phone and the OS install should be identical from phone to phone. How could one phone perform well with an OS, but not another? I could understand third-party apps affecting performance between phones, but not a simple OS install on two identical devices.
I agree with this. If OS's behaved differently on each unit then all cell phones, computers, and any other electronic device would do that.
I believe that all of the phones start of equally from the factory. As they are used then things begin to happen that affect the operation. I also believe that these so called "wipes" don't really do the whole job.
What is required is an app like "Ghost" for PC's. This app completely replaces the image on a hard drive. It doesn't simply re-install the OS.
So my conclusion is that when we do these reloads of the OS's there is always something still lurking from before.
Now then. Some one can perhaps enlighten us on what exactly apps like JLCmd really do to the phone and hopefully shoot down my argument.
I thought .86 was great until I ran into the problems. Phone options freeze, twinkle lights, can't fast-fwd past 38 minutes on podcasts, reboots when taking out of holster.
Media card error still there.
.75 just seems to be more reliable. I do miss the better pictures and transparent buttons of the camera controls.

What I've found is you have to use a combination of both "javaloader -u wipe" and "javaloader -u resettofactory". What seems to happen is that some settings are not removed after the simple wipe, it just removes the OS, but leaves many remenants of system configuration behind. So I do a wipe, reinstall the OS, and then do a resettofactory. This has cleared up 99% of my problems. Only downside is that it completely removes any configuration, contacts or customization you've done to the phone.

I'm not having any of the issues mentioned by the OP.
.86 is still a flawless experience for me. I've still yet to see this Phone Options bug. The real problem might be one of the third party apps that you guys are running.
I've gotten rid of Weather Bug, that thing isn't yet ready for prime-time on the storm in my opinion. It causes errors that you don't even know that it caused because you weren't using it at the time. Get rid of it and people will soon notice improved experiences.
I've only got 3 third party apps. AP Mobile News, QuickPull and FlyCast.
I'll add more, but Weather Bug needs more time before it's ready.
