- This is a post to add another poit of view without taking over someone elses thread.
I have been a Sprint customer since November 1996. I have been through many a phones with them (just upgrading through the years from standard phones to the smart phones). I had 2 lines with Sprint, one for my Treo 755P, and the other was my BB 8830 WE (switched from a MOTO Q. Best move I ever made). I just called the local Best Buy on 11/21 to see what they had. He told me unless I pre ordered one, there was nothing. So I was like OK, and called a Verizon store at the local shopping mall. He told me that all the Verizon stores in nothern California were sold out. I was like man this thing is more popular than I thought. Hmm, so I decided you know what lets see what happens when I call Best Buy again (form my experience if you talk to someone else, you get another story). Guess what, I have one here the guy tells me. Great hold it, and I am on my way. So he did.
Now I still have my 755P on Sprint, but I thought well looks like Sprint may not have the Storm, so maybe I will give Verizon a chance and port my number. So I went to a local Best Buy, and went through the process (painful I might add. I don't think it was Verizon, but the Best Buy employees just not being able to handle the job correctly. I was there almost 2 hours, as he was trying to get all my info and set up my account. Once we finally talked to someone at Verizon, we were moving. Verizon actually finished everything in the computer and activated the account, so all the Best Buy guy had to do was the *228 on the phone).
Pros:
I really like the screen/display. I like the WE available on it as well. The clarity on the speaker phone is just as good as the 8830 (still better than my 755P). Basically same good programs that the 8830 had. The browser is so fast compared to the 755P (both the 8830 and the Storm using just the BB browser, not my Opera that I have). The e mail account set up, and use is just a tad nicer on the Storm over the 8830 even. I noticed it will ask me what email I want to use to send a new message. As opposed to selecting an account and creating a new message and sending it with my 755P.
Cons:
The switch from portrait to landscape (or sometimes lack there of). The response to the keyboard strokes (the buttons). Man I had the 8830 down and would just whip right through typing. The Storm just doesn't seem like it can keep up if you really get going on typing. 1XEV will just come and go for me randomly, but I never had the issue with the 8830 or 755P on Sprint. Sooo, I don't know what to think about that just yet, we will see. The response of the screen in general seems to be poor. Especially the corners of the screen. I can't seem to change the size of my internal memory like I did on my 8830. Is it just me or does it seem that the OS in general seems to lag just a bit. Compared to the 8830, I feel like I could escape out of a program trackball over to another one and open it in no time. Feels like I am going to see a screen pop up and ask me if I am sure that is what I want to do you know. The call log (or lack there of) when you hit the green phone button. On the 8830 you would hit that, and it would basically bring that call log up for you. That was awesome. Not so much on the Storm, as it just brings up the call pad. Standb . . . oh wait there is none, well that's pretty self expanitory. I absolutely miss that. PLEASE have that in an update. Initial boot up seems to be a lot longer than it ever was on the 8830. Now I don't know if that is becasue that has anything to do with extra programs to run the touchscreen? Lack of themes to rearrange the home screen. I would have rather had the case than the micoSD card.
Now on a side note, I had to call Verizon customer service the other day to get my Navigator working correctly. The young lady I talked to was very nice, and I could understand her, and she could understand me. There are many times I have talked to someone at Sprint, and the language barrier is just so frustrating when you are trying to get a problem resolved.
I guess I have what 30 days to try the service and what not before I get charged a termination fee. So I will see how everything goes. I pretty much depend on this site to keep me updated on things. I mean I do for the most part like the phone, but there is a part of me that misses that trackball. I think that is common, when there is a big change from something you are so used to. I think that will wear off. My main thing is if they are going to get the other issues taken care of.
Just my 2 cents with my experience. Not trying to bash the Storm by any means.
Jason11-27-08 10:36 AMLike 0 - finally, someone who is not complaining and whining and will actually try it out.
I am glad you will be sticking with it for up to 30 days. It really 'grinds my gears' when someone uses it for a day and then returns it. You can't learn ANYTHING about the phone, nor can the phone learn anything about you. Give it some time and it will grow on you! and if not, at least you gave it a shot.
anyway, I think the need for a trackball will wear off. It's tough going to a touch screen, especially a first generation one with bugs. The new updates will be coming in the beginning and middle of december so lets hope that fixes things.
Personally I love my storm, but like everyone else, am eagerly awaiting these updates.11-27-08 10:50 AMLike 0 - Yea, just trying to give a view that is not complete band wagon or bashing. Hey does anyone else seem that the bottom of the dial pad (the 7, 8, 9, *, 0, # keys) seems to have a blueish tint to the keys. The rest of the pad has black color to them. It reminds me of the old days on the TFT LCD displays when you touched the wcreen it would discolor the screen in that area. Also got a new message at the top of my home screen. SIM card rejected . . .
Jason11-27-08 11:36 AMLike 0 - I have been with sprint and stuck with the 7100 so I will not miss the trackball. I have not got mine yet but looking forward to it.11-27-08 11:54 AMLike 0
