First time blackberry user so maybe I'm just missing something.

If I'm composing a text or email there are a lot of very standard symbols such as: ? ! , that I don't see available on either sym1 or sym2 or sym3. Where would I find these?

hit sym, then hit again and sym1 will come up and then hit again and sym2 will come up. Is that what you are asking? Or are you looking for the @, # etc that is with the ?! in lower left corner....

I know about hitting the sym, sym1, sym2. My problem is that I don't have the symbols for ? or ! or , when I do go through them. I have OTHER symbols - but not these common symbols. Is this just a problem I have?

Those symbols are on the keyboard. You have to hit the "alt" and then the key they're on to get them.
