Is it possible to set only 4 menu icons on the bottom instead of the default 8? thanks

yes.

from the main screen-
press the menu key (blackberry), this displays all your icons. press the menu key again, and select Options. this screen has the item on it you are looking for. you can select from 4, 8 or 12 icons

yes . just hit the blackberry menue on the home screen then click options then set rows to 1
