if you've got VVM, docs2go, or bb maps...get rid of em...unless you use them, as they are memory hogs...

i've gotten as much as 57 on a fresh start up

alright just checking...just did some research on the forums and found this one post...says to go to options-security options-memory cleaning-change to enable and set to yes, yes, 5 min and yes...suppos to do memory cleans while phone is idle and help keep memory up

Every Storm is different, some people will get 40MB on a battery pull, others might get 55, it just depends on your phone.

Along with what everyone has said... Defragmenting on a PC doesn't free up space, it just shuffles the data around so all the pieces of a file are contiguous. It's also an archaic ritual that has no real purpose on today's computer, but that's not a topic for this forum.

You have 128MB total to start with, and in there you have to load the Storm's firmware and any other apps into that. I'm still not entirely sure on why that is, but I'm slowly coming to just accept it. So if you're in the 40-50 range, that's pretty good.

From what I've been able to find on memory cleaning, it's not really what people think. It's more like a secure delete than a way to free up memory. That's why it's listed under security. It's useful if for some reason you had a bunch of government secrets on your phone, for example, and you wanted to make sure that any hostile foreign agents wouldn't be able to recover fragments of data from the device's unencrypted memory. So you would enable memory cleaning, which would add an extra process onto the normal garbage collection routine, that writes over that memory space a couple of times with zeros.

If someone has documentation showing it does something else, please do post a link.

My mistake then... I do PC tech support for a living, and sometimes it's all too easy to make certain assumptions.

I too think 44 is about right. Why do u want/need it be b higher?

    You always dump more apps
for more space. Stuff like bz nav rr docs to go n vvm if u don use them. That should give u a decent starr space.

Quick question. Everyone keeps saying dump the apps. Does selecting the icon and choosing delete handle that task? Or is there more to deleting an unused application? After a battery pull the most free space I get is around 29. I've deleted VVM and VZ Nav. And I'm running .75 out the box.

I'm new to Blackberry. My wife has a Curve and I've always admired her phone. Now that I've had my Storm for a week and have adjusted to it, I like it! This phone does a lot of things well. Too bad so many people have had bad experiences.
