Couple quick questions, statements on media/music on the Storm.

Currently have 8 gb Touch and an 8830 but would rather have everything on just my Blackberry and drain the battery all day long.

How do u think the Storm is going to fair in the multimedia side of the device, particularly music and video. We know it will have the highest resolution screen of any BB device, but what about the speakers? It was said the bold has great speakers, and everyone knows the issue w the 8830 ringer.

How will Rhapsody on the storm be? Does anyone have a regular vzw phone w this on it?

Will it have a sweet app like VCast song ID? I don't know how many times this woulda been nice on a car ride home to figure out what song was on the radio.

Stereo bluetooth support, unlike the hype-phone. What is the best stereo bt headset? I have a Bose plug in headset for my ipod to use at the casino playing poker, but don't know if I want to give that up!

One last rant/question, is there anyway to mass wipe ur itunes music to take the drms off? I have a whole lotta music and don't want to burn cds and then rip them to wipe the drms. That would take dayyyyyys.

I don't know for certain but I am anticipating all media functions to be on par if not better(hopefully) than the ipod/phone. There is no question this is rim taking a direct stab at apple while singing "anything you can do I can do better!"

while i know that you can sync your itunes playlist to your BB, i do NOT see the media integration beating itunes. it's just not realistic.

I think it depends on what you consider "good". If the Storm is compatible with Rhapsody as is rumored, then I'd say it's better. Some people would rather purchase a CD, and own the physical media, and that's fine and good. Some people would rather purchase music from iTunes, and be locked into whatever DRM they subject you to (hope you don't mind buying only Apple devices to play your music on). And then there's me, who'd rather treat music as a service, and pay $15 a month to access whatever I feel like exploring at that moment. I'd rather be able to use Rhapsody and un-DRM'd MP3's, than be locked into iTunes.

*And don't tell me you can burn your iTunes to CD then rip to whatever device you want, that's not a solution unless you want your already compressed music to be recompressed into whatever garbage you get in the end*

You all are also forgetting that RIM is going to have an app store also.

That is if itunes is your cup of tea. Personally I HATE the applicatipn with a passion. Huge fan of mac and osx. But I use windows and anapod for my ipod. To each their own though.

As long as i can drop a nicely tagged mp3 / Video onto a microSD, and it works flawlessly on the Storm, ill be happy

I figured this was the case but wasn't sure. The real question at hand crucial is who over there at rim is working on my port of nes marble madness? I want to be tilting marbles within a month of getting this device! I demand it!

weather someone likes itunes or not, that's fine. problem is it will be viewed as a weakness that it's not going to be integrated as well as the iphone/itunes. yeah, there should be the slacker app, and rhapsody, but that's not gonna cut it with people in love with the iphone.

dont get me wrong, i see itunes as a necessary evil. --- though i typically buy CD's and rip them myself, then just put the mp3's in itunes.

I'll use the Storm for videos and such I'm sure, but I can't see it replacing my iTouch. The iTunes/iPod combo isn't really beatable by anything else, and all of my music is completely organized while iTunes library is perfect. I don't buy music off of iTunes, I use torrents mostly, so I don't need to worry about DRM protection.

I can't see myself ever getting rid of my iPod.

my question is how well is the media player going to be on the actual device..is it worth selling my Ipod which has always been a great portable music device...but if the Storm is on par, I can eliminate having to carry the 2 seperate devices. Its one of the things I loved when I had the original Iphone.

You can use doubleTwist to convert DRM iTunes to DRM free MP3's. It's not illegal, it's not a DRM stripper. It basically does what burning to a CD and back into an MP3 does without actually doing the physical swapping of a CD. It does reduce the quality slightly just like when burning and ripping.

Oh i see where you're going, sorry for misunderstanding. That is a good point although with the rasphody push do you think there's possibly a rasphody "media manager" for the storm? i've never used rasphody so i'm unfamiliar with what the app is actually capable of doing.

the site worked for me and i was duped into entering my e-mail out of sheer over eagerness! damn the man now i'll be bombarded with bs from vzw!

i know about things like these, just trying to make it easier to use all of my music to its potential. i have like 6000+ songs in itunes and dont remember which are drm'ed and which arent. if i could mass wipe them, then i could just ship them all to my storm (when i get it).

i just want to maximize potential with all of the features.

Yes, there is a rhapsody application. When you plug in a compatible portable player, it shows up in the application similar to how an ipod shows up in itunes. You can sync over your entire collection, or selected playlists. I was hoping the storm may allow for direct downloads although after looking at the current setup for vcast music with rhapsody, it appears to work just like any other windows mobile phone/ portable music player. The files are downloaded to your computer and sync'd over usb to the phone/pmp. It does look like you may be able to preview and purchase songs directly from the phone, but actual downloads require the pc and application.

I was thinking that eventhough the app store is coming, that we(Storm owners) would have to wait longer for touchscreen versions of the apps. Is this not correct?
