Ok so I might get the flames come'n my way for this but I was just curious.

Is anyone else really happy with the hardware of the phone (storm) but really disappointed with the OS? Would people maybe like to join with me to see if we could put Android on the phone? I made a poll just to see....

I have an extra Storm sitting here with a cracked screen, but otherwise the functionality is fine. I would be more than willing to use it as a test unit...in fact, I did that with he .103 update which is why I didn't DL that one for my own phone.

    Bring it on!

Awesome! Well I wouldn't be able to pull it off all by myself but I would be willing to organize it and set up a website and help on anything I can. So if there are some coders/hackers in the house please speak up!

They're doing it on the iphone, lets do it on the Storm!

Awesome...well this thread got buried in a hurry so I still want to see what others think. I'd like to have some options for an OS...even if we created our OWN OS from linux or something (or used that mobile linux os).

By the time you port the OS over and get to function properly, both apps and network, all bugs will be worked out.

Right but then you'd have access to all of the Android content available which I'm pretty sure would be awesome.

You have a good point though. Thats why I started the poll...just to see what the community thought about it. Personally I think a Java based OS is the most ******** way to do an OS (which is why the Storm will continue to play second fiddle to the Iphone and all Android phones (touchscreen ones atleast))

So if there was enough interest I would totally see a reason to jump for it.

It's an idea, someone ported it to WM for the Touch a while back.

I think the hardware is actually pretty darn good. And to tell you the truth, I feel like to OS is getting better. It's come a long ways since .75.

Porting android is a great idea because things that people actually want will be included in the os. Example: Threaded SMS, which RIM I think has already demonstrated a lack of interest in adding...

Why not? I mean, Windows is a great OS (no flames please), but I still use Linux daily. Why not let people have options, I'd love to see Android on a Storm!

...Of course, I love the original OS so far, but that shouldn't stop anybody!

im happy with the way things are. the OS is getting better with every step. besides the reason the blackberry is so bada$$ is due to the way the phone functions. who cares about threaded sms. it shows the last 7messages when you open up a message. as long as you are hitting reply and not sending 3 messages in response it should work essentially the same way. just curious but what other reasons would you want another OS besides "just to try it"? what function or purpose would it serve?
