To all those that have made a version of .106 for the 9530 using the 9500 .106 java files the reason you have color depth issues is because of the .103 CDMA "radio code" that is used...

If you make an OS using the following parts, you will have correct color depth:

    1.) Install .90 9530 Update on PC
    2.) Install .103 9350 Update on PC
    3.) Install .106 9530 Update on PC
    4.) Copy C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\9530-v4.7.0.90_P4.0.0.114\CDMA\rim0x04001404.sfi
    5.) Paste file from step 4 into the C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\9530-v4.7.0.103_P4.0.0.131\CDMA directory
6.) Copy all files from the C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\9500-v4.7.0.106_P4.0.0.133\Java directory (.cod files)
    7.) Paste all files copied in step 6 into the C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\9530-v4.7.0.103_P4.0.0.131\Java directory
8.) "Upgrade" phone software using the AppLoader program: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader\Loader.exe

    Pros:
    Speed and apps from .106
    Color Depth from .90
    Radio code from .90

    Cons:
Potential intermittent camera saving from .90

    Enjoy!

    Cheers!

Also I experienced the Verizon Screen of Death when I use the .90 .sfi file. Might just be me though....

Looks interesting. One note though, RIM's 9530 .106 hasn't yet been leaked at this time. Did you intend to write the 9500's .106 OS?

Yeah, with the .90 radio code, it brings back the VSOD and camera issues.

Not sure if it is worth the return of the very minor color depth issue.

But at least now you can choose.

Does this also bring back the larger fonts? I forget if that is also in the .90 radio code...

Yes.. brings back the large fonts...
I have this running on my space Storm... works great... After removing the sample pics and VAD files I was at like 54MB of memory...

Oh... and I have only ever once had a VSOD on either of my two storms...

So far so good, very smooth and fast.

Now my only problem is i need KOREAN support, anyone know how to get it?

curious will radio code of .75 work so you maintain the color depth and you dont get any VSOD?

So I did a complete WIPE of my device - however, not sure how to load this Frankenstein OS using AppLoader...

Right now, I get the error in Application Loader:
The BlackBerry Desktop Software does not have BlackBerry Device Software for the device you connected to the computer. Please contact admin.

    Load apploader....
    Remove battery from Storm...
Plug in USB cable to storm...
Hit next on the firest screen on Apploader...
As soon as it comes up with "Unknown" for the PIN...
    Hit next....
You should now see the list of updates available....
    Install battery.... carefully....
    Hit next to install software...

This is the only safe way to get back from a "507" error...

    Cheers!

The "CDMA" file is not just the Radio file... it's the CORE OS file... more than just radio...

The latest OS's don't seem to add anything. It would be nice if we knew what is different so we can make an informed decision.

Thanks for the help - ok.. here is what I did and it seemed to bring it back up.

Had the 507 error - went into Apploader through EXE.. and I got the error I mentioned above.

I then decided to remove (from Add/Remove programs) .90 and .106 - but leave the frank'd version of .103.

So I then went into DM, and went through Apploader that way. My laptop was connected to the internet so it found .64 and .65 as well as .103.

I chose .103 - it went through the whole load and loaded up the frank'd version of .103. When I go to ABOUT - it says I am running .106! Does this mean I have successfully injected the necessary files from .106 into .103?

Still getting everything back up running - so no results to post yet.

    4.) Copy C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\9530-v4.7.0.90_P4.0.0.114\CDMA\rim0x04001404.sfi
    5.) Paste file from step 4 into the C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\9530-v4.7.0.103_P4.0.0.131\CDMA directory
6.) Copy all files from the C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\9500-v4.7.0.106_P4.0.0.133\Java directory (.cod files)
    7.) Paste all files copied in step 6 into the C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\9530-v4.7.0.103_P4.0.0.131\Java directory

Quick question, I did all the steps that you listed but, I am confused when it comes to the Loader portion. You have us copying all the files from .90 and .106 to .103 but, Loader is going to install the most current version available (.106) correct? So shouldn't you delete the .106 version after copying everything over before loading?

im just wondering what would happen if you loaded the .106 radio code? i know the phone is gsm but would our storms not get any signal at all? im quite curious to see what would happen, if anything at all

and to what tjsears said, it will not load the 9500 .106 because DM can recognize that the phone you are loading with is a 9530 and not a 9500

i moved the .90 and .106 folders out of that directory and just had the .103 folder there.

No. The .106 files are not for the 9530 and so they will not be installed. They can be left there.

I haven't tested it but I suspect it will not work. I will test it on my spare storm later...

Glad everyone likes it... I've been mixing and matching since .78 for the 9530 came out...

Since I have already installed the 103/106 hybrid, can I still mod the file with the .90 color depth modifcation and reinstall the new .90/103/106 hybrid on it just by overwriting the existing OS? Will DM allow me to do that or do I either have to wipe or downgrade to like .90 and reupgrade to the new .90/103/106 hybrid?

Just finished loading the new .106 hybrid. So far it works well, but as with most builds they tend to lose their "speed" after a couple of days (that's how it usually goes on my phone) anyways, thank BritishTurbo for the writeup. I am now running .106. BTW, after copying the files over from .90 and .106, I deleted .106 entirely from my computer using the Control Panel. It now reads .106 which verifies to me that the .106 COD files that I copied over re-wrote over the .103 ones. Only a matter of time will tell if things clear up.

All you have to do is copy over the .90 sfi file...
    Then goto DM or AppLoader...
You will be told that a "downgrade" is available... if you click on "detais", then on "modules" you will see the .106 sfi file is being replaced by the .90 sfi file...

Click Update and all will be good... a reboot later and you'll have .90 with fat fonts and all

    Cheers!
