do another *228? it might help. i'm 1 bar less than i was with my curve on average
Updates your PRL (Preferred Roaming List)..you should do it about once a month.
I am also seeing worse service in my apt. than my Moto Q9m had. Not terribly worse...but noticeable where I cut out sometimes...
^^*228 refreshes your network and picks up the closest towers. I didnt have to do that. My signal is great. Actually better than most other phones *alot of trees around here*
Sorry for my ignorance. When I do a monthly refresh network *228 update do I choose 1 for programimng phone or 2 to update roaming capabilities?
Choose 2 to update roaming capabilities.
I'm seeing 1-2 bars more in my house than I ever did with my treo! My old treo used to go between 0-4 bars sometimes within seconds. I must be right on the boarder here.
My signal is atrocious in my apt. The most I get is 2 bars and it keeps cycling between 1XEV, EV, and D. I can't really even use it for calls in here. It's very disappointing. I LOVE this phone other than that.
I was having all kinds of problems with calls dropping etc that I did not have with my old blackberry. I talked to my friend who is a rep with Verizon Wireless and he suggested I turn off the GSM unless I am not getting 1xEV signal.
To do this go to Options > Mobile Network and then set data services to "On", Network Selection Mode to "Automatic", and Network Technology to "1xEV". The default is for these settings only with Network Technology set to "Global".
The theory is that when it is set to "Global" and you are in an area that has multiple cell services the phone switches to the one that has the best signal. In my area, we have AT&T and Verizon 3G. Changing this setting fixed this issue for me.
Pull the battery and never speak about this low signal again! Put a piece of tape over the signal indicator and the problem will be solved! It's funny how the biggest issue of this phone is kept under wraps! I hope to god it can be fixed with software but i would guess a refinement of the hardware is in order! Now will Rim make this public and replace all the storms or will they just deny the problem so they wont have to? I am guessing the worst!
The signal is fantastic, calls are good and web pages load blisteringly fast. Night and day with this and my old dare.
I thought that the Storm could only access Verizon's network in the US. What your saying would mean that we can use anyones at any time since it has the capability to.
all i know is my curve got waaay better signal than this storm
my TMo EDGE is faster than Verizon's 3G!! WTF ?!?!
Coming from an LG dumbphone, I've never had better signal. Everywhere I had questionable or intermittent signal before is worlds better on the Storm. Maybe other blackberries are even better but this is a huge improvement for me.
Don't get misled by 3 vs 4 vs 5 bars. There's no standard across manufacturers or even models for what constitutes those bars.
A better indicator is signal strength, measured in dB. I remember seeing it on one of the settings/status pages.
So it's not only the iphone that drops calls, good to know. :p
I have NO signal issues what so ever. Could NEVER had said that back when I had AT&T. You could not USE the phone in the house AT ALL NOR outside until you drove the car up the block!!! Calls are clear (in fact family has remarked today that I sound so much clearer & did I change phones lol)!
Is there anything you can do when you have a weak signal (other than deal with it)?
The few of you with signal issues, please dial *22899 Send and let it do its thing. This works just for Verizon, don't be doing this if you're on a GSM Storm. See if this resolves your issues.
My lovely luck, didn't work for me
Then you'll have to wait for the software to be updated to help with radio signal because obviously it's not a provisioning or PRL issue.
yeah the signal on mine is not as strong as it was on the curve. It is as strong though as the my wife's pearl which is sad for me. I enjoyed the super strong signal!
I cant complain though.
Another thing I have noticed is that the bluethooth signal strength is not as strong as the curve's either. Again I cant really complain about it as I was walking around the entry level with my phone sitting near the couch with the charger with my curve. I just cant do that with the storm anymore....
This is by no means a deal breaker.
