I don't know what happened. Whether it was my recent os upgrade to 517 or the new BIS 3.0, but something amazing has happened to my native browser. It went from being frustratingly slow and almost unusable to lightning fast! Its so different I have been thinking of it as a whole new app.

I used to use Opera Mini exclusively, and had even gone as far as to "hide" the icon for the bb browser, but that has all changed. I haven't even booted up OM in a couple of days. Has any one else noticed this incredible change? Is it the new BIS or was my it 517 upgrade? Most pages now load in less than 3 seconds! WTF! I love it!

Ok, vzw.com took about 14 seconds to load, but that is a huge page. Over 600k and like 40 big images. I generally steer away from sites that large when I'm browsing with my bb. Normal sized pages and mobile sites load almost instantly.

I guess these responses settle it. It must be the .517 upgrade. If others are still getting the slow speed on .320 then it must not be BIS 3.0. Upgrade! It's a pain but its worth it.

Maybe it's the area you're in. Mine took 1 minute and 45 seconds on the bb and 14 seconds on Opera. No complaints though...Opera serves all my needs for now. I think even if when the webkit comes out, I really like the Speed Dial function that Opera has.

    I'm running .517.

    wow

speed will depend when and where your using ur browser..

example.. if your trying to load vzw.com at either 12pm or 5:30pm on a weekday, you already know it will be somewhat slow because everybody is on using it.. same as a weekend night..

or try loading vzw.com at 4 am in the morning on a weekday night and see how fast it is

I have been testing it and using it frequently at all times of day and night for two days now. The quick speeds are consistent all around. I have been using blackberrys for quite awhile and understand how traffic works over wireless and wired broadband. My original post was made after much use and experimentation. It is peak traffic time in my area right now and speeds are still faster than ever before.

Turning off "Support Javascript" in your browser options will also speed things up, I've got mine set to prompt if "Javascript" is needed or required and YES, the browser has DRAMATICALLY improved over the last few OS updates and have all but stopped using OM, I still like it, but sometimes links don't act properly like they do with the native browser.
