storm1 croaked that I've had since they released a while back. They sent another storm1 and it lasted 3 days then croaked so now I have a S2. My question is, does the red button for ending calls work just like a S1 does? Shouldn't you be able to hold down the red button and power down the phone?

This one doesn't do that. I have to go to the menu and select Power Off.

And when I tried to power up the phone this morning using the button, no dice. Once I pulled the back cover off the phone and was going to pull the battery it magically came back to life. I'm wondering if this S2 is a dud. I sure hope not, I'm on my 3rd phone since last Thursday.

No, you hold down the 'Screen Lock' button now to power down the phone.

Also press the SL button to power it up.

I actually like the separate button. Prevents inadvertant shut downs.
