N00B HELP GUIDE: Upgrade/Downgrade, Backing up, Bricked STORM!!!
So I decided to put together a thread that will have all links to threads in regards to updating....Hopefully this gets stickied. I will be updating it, if new info comes up.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Once you are done, always remember to do a battery pull and resend your service books. For vzw, don't forget to call *228, option 1; then wait a few minutes and do *228, option 2. This will update your roaming capabilities.
HOW TO BACK UP YOUR BLACKBERRY:
1. Open up Desktop Manager (DM)
2. Connect phone via USB to PC
3. Click on Back Up and Restore in DM
4. Click Back Up
5. Save Dialog comes up, click Save
6. Wait until you get the message "The back up file was successfully created." Now you can proceed to back up 3rd party apps...
If you get an error backing up, clear browser cache.
Thanks to all who contributed to making the threads to help out everyone!!!! I really hope this thread will be a one resource for all needs!!! All suggestions welcome. Enjoy...
Great post! Hopefully we won't be seeing the same threads over and over now...wishful thinking, I know.
Its funny too that you have my "Force an OS" thread linked. Ever since I posted it, no one ever responded or commented at all! Hope someone gets some use from it.

I hope so too. About your theead, I actually had to give links to it to a few people. I just thought that an all in one place would be better than searchin all over.

Olta, you're on a roll, You the man (actually WOman). Great resource for all. Hopefully, it will cut down on some of these threads tath periodically show up.
Great post for everyone. I've been a lurker here for a few months and have learned a lot about the Storm and somtimes it's been a PIA sorting through all the threads looking for this info. Thanks.
Wow, props to you for putting this great source together for all the noobs out there... especially the ones afraid to update from .75. Maybe this will give them the confidence they need to take the plunge.
This is a great guide! I have one question: If I am running .122 (or any leaked update for that matter) do I need to go down to .75 (or the last official OS) before upgrading to .132 (or any other leaked OS)? Or can I go straight from .122 to .132?

You need to uninstall .132 from your PC, and only have .75 on there. Then go to app loader and it should do it for ya.
So i d/l the leaked OS. There was no vendor.xml file. What there was was a device.xml.backup file. So i deleted, installed, and now all i get is a white screen that say reload software 507. So i went and downloaded .172 to downgrade and try to fix it. Once again there is no vendor file. What is going on here, and what can i do to fix this?
There is one. Scroll sown to the bottom in that same folder.
