I tend to think that it's not just luck.
I've had the exact same experience with my S2 that I've had since launch week - not a single issue.

same here, 1 storm 1 for almost a year no issues, and still on my only storm 2. there is a phrase we commonly use for the people that have high return numbers. ;)
Gotta agree with the both of you! And everytime I have had a problem--it has been me-not the phone! lol
the google app itself might appear similar at a quick glance but the navigation using gmaps is not even close. The new navigation on the new android phones blow away 90% of the handheld navigation units from Tomtom, Navigon, garmin etc.
Of the 15 years of owning cell phones, I never once had to replace them, except I did replace a battery on one because the battery fried and melted but didn't affect the phone. My first phone was a bag phone. LOL
Oh- I remember those bag phones. I had one too! That is one thing I DON'T want is to go to a phone that is bigger than my Storm2- for me it is the perfect size. Don't want thicker ones either.......and I think it all stems from having to carry around those bricks of years ago!:D
I read BA_HAMILTON's post and do agree the screen on the X is awesome. Heck the phone itself, I can't knock. I don't like the flame wars of 'my phone is better than yours because'.
I posted for the benefit of those people out there that sit on the fence wondering if all the platform hopping is worth it.
As you can see by the one gentleman's post for him it is.
What was that one poll I saw here on CB not too long ago about the % of people who upgrade their OS's?? It is something like 30-40%??
So I am guessing it all depends how much BB puts faith in those of us who post on these boards in an effort to "push" them into releasing more advanced products.
Sometimes I really wonder if the people who make the decisions really read these boards and utilize what is said to make decisions.
My prediction is some of the platform hoppers will be back in the months to come because of the same reason I came back...
Same here. Storm 1 for 9 months before changing to Storm 2. Same device for over 7 months and it is still in pristine condition. Majority of the frequent switches is user error (Especially 3+ phones?, come on guys! Really? Forgetaboutit and move on for Pete's sake).:)
It's not fair for those who have had "pristine" Storms, only one Storm, etc. to rank on those who have had multiple Storms. For anybody to pump out their chest to others and blame the user for needing multiple Storms as a blanket statement means to me you are clueless about technology.
Sure, some people brick their own technology, but some of us don't. Technology is not 100% flawless. So I'm happy for you who have had a Storm run "perfectly" for you since day 1. Please stop ranking on those who haven't been so lucky.
Geesh.
I gotta agree wtih you, hamilton. Based on my own (admittedly limited) comparison, I walked away feeling much the same. Yeah, that screen is terrific (though, I did not have the chance to unhook it from the store security system to take outside in the sun, lol). Bottom line for me was, "nice, but no sale."
This has been a long-raging argument. How can some require multiple/multiple and even MORE multiple exchanges, while others are still with their original device? Something is very weird and I do not profess to know what it is. Certainly, I have my suspicions. My original Storm 1, purchased on release day, was just fine. I upgraded to the 2 near release day and I did have the "sticking key" problem. I got a replacement and have not looked back ever since, it works just fine. This is NOT "chest thumping" just saying...what's so different? Needing a replacement is perfectly understandable, it happens, it even happens with Android and iPhone devices (just read their forums...lots of complaints), but personally, I cannot fathom how anyone would require 4, 5, 6 or more replacement devices while others, none or perhaps, 1. Something is mighty fishy in paradise, my friend.
I can't disagree with you there. 3,6,10 - sure, something may be up with that. But I am also not so quick to pass up a faulty device, or at least one that might never have been ready for primetime in a certain niche, that niche being the non-business user. 256mb and the processor speed of the Storm 2 are not condusive to some of the uses a non-business person may do, the multi-media and gaming stuff that has slugged down PC's for years. Lots of people want it all to work now, which is why I think some people continue to return/exchange under the delusion that the next one might be a bit snappier.
Bottom line for me in making this switch (and I am skeptical as I sit here waiting for the X to arrive) is this: I was introduced to BlackBerry at a prior job. Soon after I changed my personal cell to a Pearl, then a Storm 1, and now a Storm 2. From the business perspective, meaning email/contacts/calendar/tasks and the BB's ability to sync seamlessly with MS Outlook, I'm almost positive that an Android or an iPhone won't touch the BB. But as much as I have resisted a converged device in the past (I have an iPod for music, a digital camera for pictures, an HD video camera for video, and I always wanted a cell phone for calls), I find myself changing. I find myself wanting to browse the net at random, or play a stupid useless game, or listen to a song, or watch a video, or take and check out photos, etc etc all with a device attached to my belt. It's becoming a more difficult balance for me to find such a device.
As my thread title states, I know the grass isn't greener, meaning I know I will find issues with any device. But from what I've read about hardware specs, and the abundance of apps, useful or not, as compared to the BB Appworld, the Droid X "appears" to be much closer to what I am personally looking for in such a converged device.
As I get close to having an X in hand, I hope call quality is about the same as the Storm 2. I know browsing will be quicker, I know the camera/video is better, I know the screen is better, and I know one important (and useless to some) app I use always, Slingplayer Mobile, stinks on the BB and from what I've read should work great on the Droid. I am not sure how I will adjust to the Droid's handling of emailing and messaging and the lack of a solid and native MS Outlook syncing solution.
The Storm 2 will still be here in my household. I have 30 days to return the Droid X to VZW if I am not satisfied or I find myself battling with it. I don't want to be forced to use Google everything over Microsoft. Only time will tell if my decision will stick.
First impressions out of the box yesterday and this morning:
Definately a learning curve coming from the BB experience. Since my cell service is crappy at home I really haven't tested it yet. So far the only apps I've loaded is Slingplayer Mobile and LogMeIn. I will play with setup over the weekend.
The larger size doesn't bother me as much as I thought. Solid felling phone and fairly light.
Having the Storm 2 and an iPod Touch, the Droid experience out of the box feels somewhere in between although closer to the iPod Touch. I do like the larger screen. I'm not sure what I'm going to do about Outlook syncing yet. I am very hesitant to move everything to Google.
It may help if you just try to forward your emails to your gMail account and let them be pushed through the cloud. You then should be able to receive them on your phone and check them in Outlook as well. Also, Outlook calendar can sync with Google using Google sync. 2 easy ways of using Google and Outlook to see how you like it.
To OP:
Nah nah nah nah.
Nah nah nah nah.
Hey hey -ey
Good -bye.
Now in my opinion, if in your perfect forum world, there is one long thread that points out someones negative experiences with a product. I open Google, do a search fro xxxx phone and come upon this one thread with 3000 posts that point out negative experiences with said product, these 3000 posts are interspersed with another 5000 posts telling the OP that he/she is a moron then another 2000 posts with other side issues. I am not going to walk away with much information let alone my sanity.
Now in my forum world, I do a Google search for the same product and I find 3000 different threads all from different users having mostly the same issues with said product. Now I start to think that maybe this product might have some issues that need to be considered before I decide what product to purchase.
So really for me it comes down to this, if you have already read a post about an issue and you have nothing except clutter to add to the thread, just move on and keep your whining to yourself.
I've had the Droid X for ten days. The Droid has it's obvious "flaws" in comparison with a BB, the most well known and irritating is a complete disregard for Outlook (yeah, I know, it's a Google phone). That being said, I have made a few compromises:
I use Google sync to sync Outlook calendar to Google
I transferred contacts to Google
Tasks I've done nothing with yet
BB obviously understand what it is, a business phone. As such, BB doesn't try to force you out of the most recognized programs in the business world, Outlook. As a non BES user I can sync the BB to my Outlook, whereas the Droid there are some shortcuts to take but things are missed.
I gave my wife my Storm 2 (the Storm 1 was starting to act up) and I am going to stick with the Droid X. As a multi media phone the Droid X shines due to it's 1GHZ processor. Excellent web access, real speedy - dances circles around the Storm 2. But man does the battery drain real fast (I thought the Storm 2 was bad).
As I thought the Droid X is no where near perfect. It's much bigger than the Storm 2. I'm not used to it kicking Outlook to the curb. Poor battery life. But for some of the apps important to me (Slingbox, remote access to my home computer - the Storm 2 doesn't cut it whereas the X does). I would come back to BB myself if they produced a meatier phone on the VZW network, because from it's seamless integration with Outlook it can't be beat.
While it is true that there are some short comings, many are being addressed in the upcoming release of Android 2.2, which from everything I've heard is the most business friendly Android OS yet. So hang tight, to see what it offers. It's also supposed to increase the phones speed performing its tasks.
As for battery drain, have you been allowing the battery to drain completely?
In the user guide it said that you needed to give your battery three full charges & complete drains for it to function optimally. My Droid X lasts far longer than my Storm ever did, and I use it about 3X more, for everything from texting, e-mail, gtalk, social networking, news reader, podcasts, games, etc. and it lasts for about 14-16 hrs on average. I've also noted (and this may be a glitch) that although sometimes my battery drains rather quickly from 50% - 30%, it takes hours of use for that 30% to drop to 0. I know when I got the Droid X, that sometimes it would give a false battery reading, and restarting it would fix it. It was supposed to be fixed in the first update after it was released to market, but maybe they screwed something up. That said, I haven't had much trouble with the battery. That may also be because after 6 pm, I'm generally either at a restaurant, bar or home near a wi-fi connection, which I've heard consumes less battery power than using the phone's 3G connection.
If you're going from the Storm to the Droid X, you should read this thread, especially my post towards the end.
Good Luck.
I really like my DX.. but... - Android Forums
Sweet! Like, who cares!
I read this post. This guy has issues because the Droid X does not do the exact same things, the exact same way that his bb does. What a shocker...2 different software platforms function differently. The DX and the S2 are both great phones. If you're all business, and don't spend too much time on the web, S2 is perfect. If you like to browse a lot and want a large application pool, DX is perfect.
Darn - how could I have possibly missed this intelligent response. Stormbabe, you are one **** of a communicator - props to you. And I even think you're singing in key too!!
I just love these forums. People like you Stormbabe make me humbled as I used to think I was smart but I cannot compete with such literacy as this beautiful quote above illustrates.
So you what you don't like about the Droid X is that it isn't a Blackberry OS device? Nice.
That said, it's not really a useful post.
I am kind of in the same boat. My BBM name is the Blackberry Manual. I should get paid to sell them. I beleive in them so much, but not getting the newest OS on the phone is unacceptable. To come out with the "game changer" in Torch to subpar reviews is unacceptable. I stayed with Palm until the bitter end, and I dont plan to do that again. I am going to miss my BB. I love the calendar and the messaging. But to have inferior hardware is bothering me. Like most people I use my phone for everything. I run two businesses with my BB. But I am also a father, brother, and husband. I dont have the ability to run to a PC all the time. I need my phone to do everything. I am taking my talents to south... ER I mean I ordered my droid X and am nervously waiting for it.
Not sure why everyone wants the Droid X, the Incredible is exactly that. I have had my incredible for a week and am still learning, but give a few things, I would not trade back my Dinc for my Storm 2, ever! Incredible is so fast, never lags, internet is awesome, apps are better, and usually free, widgets rock, as well as 7 home screens. I rooted and now have free wifi hotspot.
Only things I miss are:
1. Surepress - however, that is being missed less and less as I use this
2. Different notifications - not a biggie, but that was nice
3. Most importantly - i loved pressing the call to go to my log, then being able to hit the menu button and have any option of messaging to a contact. This is in Android, but not as easy.
Other than that, exchange is actually better on Android than BIS. For those on the fence, the grass in greener on the other side!
