So about a month ago after several failures, with my Storm 2, I went back to my Storm 1. Yea It sucked. But why pay for another poorly made phone. I loaded nothing. It was fine for a whole 2 weeks. Then, my screen went dead. So I head to Verizon for another phone. They gave me a referb. and I was on my way. FOUR DAYS LATER my phone just kept rebooting. Back to Verizon. My four day old phone had crashed. I was home sick. Nothing (other than contacts and emails were on it). I hadn't been out. I was done.

Now I spoke to many of you about the "dangers" of the Android. A buddy of mine loaned me his HTC Hero with the leaked Android 2.1. All I can say is WOW. Yea, there's no BB messenger.....and that stinks. But I don't see what everyone was complaining of. I used it in direct light. It looked EXACTLY like the storm as far as how well you could see. It was way faster and very fluid. And the browser BLOWS IT AWAY. And the apps....HOLY CRAP. On BB we pay for everything they get for FREE....YES FREE!!!!

But....It was garbage compared to the mac daddy of them all......

My buddy calls me up and says he just got hold of something better. And better it was. The new HTC 4G EVO phone. IT WAS AMAZING!!!!!! The phone is at least 50% bigger and its all screen. A beautiful high def screen. Its about 50% thinner than the storm (so Its not all bulk). It is about as heavy as the Storm. And fast.....Fast is an understatement. Now before someone complains "it's on 4G...it should be"....well It wasn't. We don't have the 4G here yet. But websites load in under 3-4 seconds.....not WAP sites...but REAL pages. And....the mother of it all (and I have video to prove it).....It loads FLASH. The Flash did take longer than the rest of the page (about 3 seconds longer), but It was still faster than my storm loading a regular web page.

TV looks amazing. You can steam Live video to do conference calls (it has a rear facing camera) that is clearer than the storms 3MP. It has an 8 MP Camera. Its a hot spot for up to 8 devices (Imagine sitting in the woods with a generator, a TV and your PS3 playing Call of Duty Online). The nicest thing is you will still be able to make calls and use the Internet at the same time. With everything, even when the 4G comes out, it's still cheaper than Verizon and it's a $199 ($299 minus $100). I do not want to hear about better coverage either. I've dropped 6 calls today. Not one on the HTC....both equal amounts and clarity is fine.

Im not trying to bash BB. But after seeing and using the 4G EVO, I felt like I was using a StarTac phone with the lack of what the BB has to offer.

All I can say is when it comes out (June 4th), look at it, hold it, and try it. Yea its different than having the surepress screen. But because the phone is so big, in landscape mode, the keys are almost normal size (I still have a tough time in portrait, but I cant use my BB much in portrait either).

Maybe, BB will come out with a nice phone for Storm 3. But I ask everyone this....After buying not one HUGE lemon (S1), but a second one (S2 - at least for me), why give them a 3rd try?

I do hope there are as many helpful and nice people on the Android forums as the one's on here. Everyone has given great advice and helped me learn and become very knowledgeable in how to use a BB. Thank you.

Good comment on your experience so far.

My storm 2 is far from being a lemon. It works just right for me. Maybe i don't know what I'm missing but that can be said of everything in life.

    Good luck to you

Nice review and it does sound great. The browser part is well known so that's not new. I do like that the screen is bigger. I hear that's a really nice phone. Personally, I only like mobile pages when on my phone so that part for me is a non factor. We are all hoping for changes (minor/major depending on who you ask) Everything else sounds nice though. Have fun and enjoy what's best for you.

...but until it is launched and used by lots of regular folks, it is hard to say that it is the 'Nirvana' for mobile phones.

I am curious as per the claim of Flash working on HTC EVO 4G since it is running Android OS 2.1. Full flash will be available on Android OS 2.2 but it has not been released. Are you sure about that claim?

The Android platform is definitely a phenomenon to behold but it is still rough around the edges for anyone that wants a phone to do the two basic things that a phone does: Phone calls and messaging (no-brainer, huh?). Without a doubt, RIM is the master on both as of the moment. If you want the best media or internet experience, the Apple iPhone and/or Android is the way to go. I have access to all of the 3 platforms and I know who to go to when I want reliability. Of course, it is the Storm 2.

This is what it comes down to for me: A smartphone has to be a 'phone' first before being 'smart'. Until both iPhone and Android get that right, they are simply shiny toys.

I've seen the light too! And I've been using it since January - Storm2 9550. I use it daily to keep up with my email (from 5 different accounts) and text messaging, managing my calendar, listening to music, watching videos, playing games, GPS navigation and quick need for web browsing - oh, and yea I also use it as a phone

Sure, the original OS sucked, but with the two latest releases it has run like a well tuned machine. No memory leak, great looking screen. I dunno - everything I need in a device is being met with what I have today.

Maybe there are devices that do certain things better, but as a package I find the Storm2 9550 to more than meet my needs and expectations. I've found nothing, in any recent devices that I've looked at (including Incredible) that has me saying I need that due to any specific need or purpose.

I'm happy with 9550 - best of luck with your future device.

The evo 4 looks sweet, as does the Incredible. But as someone else here wrote the storm 2 does all the things I need and it does them well. I run 2 businesses both on exchange server and my blackberry kicks it out with the corporate email, syncs my outlook calendar, tasks and memo's as well. Until the and if the I-Phone comes to Verizon or Android gets there crap together with Exchange server I'll be staying right at home with my Blackberry.

I agree with you. I've been on BB for about 2 years now and I'm honestly sick of it. I've moved from the S1 to the Tour to the World Edition back to the S1 then back to the Tour and now on S2. Although S2 is clearly far better than all of them put together, it is still nothing compared to the other phones I have used. I am not mentioning the iPhone as, let's face it, nothing can compare to it fully today. However, I eagerly wait for my contract with VZW to expire so that I can either move to the iPhone if it ever comes on VZW or the Android platform... whichever one I choose at the time - my point being that this is def. that last BB i will be using... clearly (and I'm not being a troll but since we're doing a review forum I may as well share my personal opinion) RIM is currently far behind compared to the mass use of technology used by it's competitors; yes, the BB is mainly a business phone but RIM changed that by introducing the Storm series (not fully business - I should rather say not at all business as it's impossible to type long emails on compared to Tour or other touch screens). Relentless it may be, but in my personal opinion and far fetched view point: RIM has to either gather 1000's of new employees who know what they are doing or fall behind and leave the industry to it's competitors. Okay, lol I went too far there but I am clearly not coming back to BB once my contract is over... another 9 months of torture.

Ya know, I'm kind of tired of hearing about how RIM is SO far behind in technology as compared to say iPhone OS or Android. In what way? Any kind of messenging? Actual phone calls? Exchange sync? The way some of these...people say, "RIM is SOOOO far behind" is somewhat unfounded. What can these phones do that Odin can't? I can play movies on my S2, I can listen to music on my S2, I can even run a multitude of apps...AT THE SAME TIME! Emails come to me, I do NOT pull my battery, and I've had my original device since launch!

So where is the technology lag I am experiencing with my Storm2? Is it that I don't have sensless apps available to me? A friend has an app on his iPhone that shows a close up of a gun trigger. When you swipe the trigger, the phone creates the sound of a gun firing. You can do this until the clip is empty at which time you can reload and do it all over again. Really? Is it because other UIs are PRETTY and SWEET? Well mine works! I'm not saying the others don't, but I don't need the flowers. Odin works for me. I realise the whole different stroke for different folk and all, but for someone to make such and ignorant declaration as RIM is SOOOO far behind IMO is just irresponsible.

Enjoy your phone when you get it, and enjoy Sprint. In case you missed Mr. Orange's link, I'll provide you with it as well. http://forums.crackberry.com/f169/

That's kind of like asking how is a 2010 Mercedes s65 AMG more advandced than a 1985 Ford Escort. Sure the escort drives, has a radio, maybe even has a/c, and will get you from point a to point b. I can't quite put my finger on it, but somehow I imagine that the Mercedes experience is just a little different.

This is coming from a S2 user and not a business person. I do not use my phone for business unless I absolutely have to, the email setups are personal and not business. When I travel (pretty rare) I use my phone but that is the only time I use it for work. I use it for recreational purposes, checking sports scores, browsing the web, texting freinds, and running apps that interest me and to be honest this phone takes care of my needs with no problem at all. A very good freind of mine has an Incredible and after running it through its paces for a half day it is no better than my S2. Each have their features that are better than the other, but I would not drop my Storm for an Incredible and I'm on my 5th replacement because of a earpiece problem. I was tempted to ask Verizon for a different phone but honestly I haven't found a phone that is better for me than the 9550. The Incredible is a nice phone but it certainly does not blow my S2 out of the water as some have claimed, personal opinion. If people change phones that's fine with me, I have no problems with it. But don't bash on RIM because you think they have fallen off the tracks, the S2 suits me just fine so keep up the good work RIM.
Something better will come up next year and those that switched to an Android device will be bashing Motorola because their devices are not as good as what was just released. It never fails.

If you like your phone, that's great. Go to the android forum and enjoy some conversation with like minded enthusiasts. But please, stop trying to antagonize BB owners here on this forum.

Antagonize bb owners? Me? Why I'm a bb owner myself, so perish the thought! I see something that i disagree with, I post. It's my way of curing what ills our society.
Now if all of my post were just love letters gushing about how great bb's are, would you feel the same way?

I can't see what is not to love about the 9550. It has very much changed the way I do business. I am a salesman in a rural area and the secure e mail ,the teather to my laptop to send orders and the outstanding reliability makes my day so much easier. Thats what a smart phone should do. I don't know much about all the other phones but I do love my BB. The thing is like all new tech type items it takes a bit of effort to learn. The typing once you get used to it is very fast but it is different. The broweser could be better but that for me is a small issue and sounds like it could be fixed with 6.0 coming soon. One more thing Theone01sounds like a## with nothing really to to say but complain, can't be around people like that.
