I did some searching around and could not find an answer to this question. I am trying to setup a new gmail account on my Storm, and per the instructions on google and on this website, to set it up as an imap you need to type in your email address, then type the password in incorrectly. This will allow you to set up gmail manually and select imap. When I do this my Storm just pops up with a message that says setup failed and to try again. It won't let me select imap. How do I make this work?

There's a wiki that shows you how to do this. Search for Set up 'Gmail IMAP wikidot' in google, its a page called BlackBerry Storm Wiki: Set up Gmail IMAP

Nevermind. I got it by using the instructions from BlackBerry Storm Wiki: Set up Gmail IMAP

Edit: You beat me to it!

You don't need to download anything. It is very easy. Just go to "Setup-->Email Setting-->Add". Put in your gmail account name and password. And voila, it is done in a few seconds. I have it set up while I was in the VzW store waiting for the sales rep to finish the paperwork.

That is what I ended up doing. I thought I was going to have to enter the advanced settings, but I have pop off and imap on in gmail settings and the account configured itself.

Is there any benefit to doing it the long way? Should I delete the gmail account and add it again?

Since this is my very first BB, I don't know if there is any benefit doing it the long way or not. But my gmail is working perfectly fine.

I suspect it is just a different way to skin a cat....so to speak. Just like Facebook. you can download the app and take up memory on your device, and you can also just go to the web site using the browser. And there is nothing wrong with that approach.

There is always more than one way to skin a cat. But if I don't have to download and install anything, I rather not to.

Working perfectly fine... but is it still showing all the messages you send as NEW messages in your Inbox?
