Last night I was going through my appliations and realized that I have more 3rd party apps than I realized (beyond411, facebook, facecall, got2, viigo, yvmail, youtube, opera mini, quickpull, moodio.fm) and was wondering how many are too many?

I have 9 third party apps and 5 launchers... Always have 43MB after a fresh reboot and 30MB or so after a days use.

How much ram is set aside for installing apps? If it's the 1gb, then a portion of that..right? I assume the rest would be for the os and whatnot.

    Weak.

34 3rd party apps on mine. No, I don't use them all the time, but they're nice to have when I want to use them. App memory ranges from 33MB to 19MB free.

What's the point of a smart phone if you're not going to (ab)use it as such?

I agree 1000% I used to always worry about how many apps I had and thought it was the end of the world. Then something magical happened. As I've stated before I simply stopped being obsessed with the amount of free memory I had available every second of the day. Problem solved. My storm gets slow, I pull the battery and I'm off and running again.

I download the application that I will use consistantly, not just a bunch application to show off to friends or whom ever....

Too many is when your memory reaches ~15mb or when ever you feel your phone start to slow down.

First off, delete Youtube, it is beyond trashy.

Second, moodio.fm is not an app, it's just a laucher.

Yeah I think a lot of you have launchers. Their not really apps, they just point the web browser to certain website.

No launchers here. I don't really see the point of them when web sites are just a bookmark away.

I would guess that it's not a matter of how many apps are too many, but rather which apps do you have installed. A guy with one piece of junk memory hog app is probably going to be in worse shape than a guy with 20 finely tuned apps.

I'd say it becomes too many when you don't really use some app except maybe once every 5-6 blue moons. If you use an app, and it provides some kind of value/utility to you, then I don't see anything wrong with having it on there.

If some app starts affecting your phone in a negative way, like Weatherbug does with battery life, then personally I would have a rethink as to whether or not I really need this app. Until then, load it down with as many apps as YOU find useful.

for those of you who have 30-40+mb of app memory, what OS are you running?

i have vlingo, slydial, facebook, myspace, google latitude, talklock, youtube, slacker, bblight, light saber, tiltris, and nintaii all downloaded and i run only about 34mb after a battery pull.

but then again im still on .75, upgrading to .99 now. hope it makes a difference.
