I was came up with a method to get my personal dvds on my storm. and one of the steps I was using is dvd shrink. I wonder if im saving any room doing this . Or if im wasting my time with dvd shrink.

Not sure, as I haven't used DVD shrink cept for shrinking DVD's, and not for this. I would say though if your movies are between 150-400 mb (full length) and depending on a few other details (darkness, action, etc) and they look alright you'll be fine. Just do a few tests. it's what i did.

OK I just looked for example I have indiana jones 4 down for 760.8 mb. is that to big.

I used in this order DVD fab, dvd shrink , handbrake, then the software for media for the BB

and they look like widescreen crystal clear movies. sound is great too

I do it a little more simply if I don't want to create a DivX/XviD avi file before hand. I export from DVD Fab to mpeg4 at 480x360 14.975 fps 500 kpbs video and 64 kbps aac sound. if the file is too big (usually is) I run it through a 3gp converter at the same settings. Not sure how long IJ4 is, but my longest/largest movie I've done so far is Blackhawk Down. It's almost 2 and a half hours and it's 400 MB. I'll run IJ4 through this for you tonight and let you know how big of a movie I end up with.

edit: yes i convert to 3gp, the guy at videos4blackberry uses 3gp and i feel they're just as good quality if done right and take up less space than mp4's. granted they are less universally compatible (ie mp4 can be used on psp's, iphones, etc) but i only play video on BB's

edit 2: while i'm not familar with all the software you're using(handbrake is the only one i dont know), if you have the ability to edit the final output settings, try these. 300-400 kbps video (anything over 400 i feel is overkill and you dont notice), 480x360 resolution, 14.975 fps, 64 kbps audio quality, aac format, 32 khz sample rate. mine always come out pretty solid

You got 8 GBs to play with. I'm happy if I can get movies around .5 GBs (little bigger is ok for me)

It will always help to decrease the size.

Right now my movies are average 700MB, 700kbps 128 stereo .mp4

most of my movies average 150-400 MB and all seem to be good quality to me. slight bitrate increase can put them around 500 tops and still look really good. I'll have to put a megaupload of one of the smaller ones up or something when i get home

I use DVD shrink as well to trim closing credits and reassemble different chapters.

My process: dvdfab -> dvdshrink -> handbrake

I prefer mp4 over 3gp, but those are just containers. For the codec I prefer h.264 with bitrate of 600-800 and 29.97 fps.

yea the 3gp is done with the same thing h.264, same aac and such so the container is just preference.
