When entering phone numbers they always go in as 1234567890.

Is there any way to get them to go in as 123-456-7890 or (123) 456-7890 without having to enter the dashes or parenthesis separately?

All the other phones I have had always formatted phone numbers for you. (Even the iPhone does it.)

    Thanks.

You have to add the dashes I think.

I dont understand why you need them? The numbers go in fine without dashes and store correctly?

If you're entering them with a "1" some of them won't go through. Mine work fine w/o the dashes but some of them that had a "1" in front of them wouldn't go through.

I only added the dashes because I synced my contacts from AddressBook (mac) and it added some as 123456789, some as (123) 456-789, and some as 123-456-789 and I wanted them all to be the same... (OCD, I know..)

I format mine 987 654 3210 (spaces only, no dashes or parentheses) and find it annoying that I can't easily type a space from the portrait keyboard.

This was the same on my Curve, except that the space bar was always right there for easy formatting.

I'm confident RIM will recognize this fault and address it in a future update.

I hope everyone is emailing bbsuggestions@rim.com with any little annoyances such as this, to ensure RIM hearing us, that we're not just unproductively venting in a thread they may not read.

If "1" is the international code for USA it should be "+1" (at least on GSM phones and I think Storm follows the convention even for CDMA).

The + symbol reperesents "international access code" whatever it happens to be where the phone is connected - "011" in US or "00" almost everywhere else. Entering numbers in international format means the contacts list will work worldwide without any adjustment if you travel with the phone.
