help with BB button and horizontal & vertical menu's

Regardless of the OS system I am using, I get a horizontal menu with icons when I push the BB button. What I want and need is the detailed vertical list menu without icons. If I push the BB button enough, the vertical list will eventually pop up. Its very frustrating as I have no need for the horizontal menu with icons and it interferes with my navigation. Does anyone else have this problem or is desperate to rid their storm of the horizontal menu? Any and all help would be very appreciated as I've searched with no helpful findings.

horizontal menu? are you referring to the app switcher??

check your key rate in options> screen/keyboard> key rate. I had an issue where the app switcher came up almost everytime I pressed the BB button, and turning the key rate from high to normal "fixed" it.
